As my daughters and I were watching The Ballad of Davy Crockett staring Fess Parker, a question crossed my mind: Where have all our heroes gone?
The movie heroes like John Wayne, Audie Murphy, and Roy Rogers have all passed on. Television heroes like Clayton Moore, George Reeves, and Jack Webb are also gone. They were all real men and real heroes a kid could look up to and want to be like.
Now all we have are limp-wristed, linguini-spined, America haters like Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp, just to name two. There is no one to look up to as a real man and a real hero. What a shame….
But wait! We DO have people we can look up to! We can admire our American soldiers who have proudly served our country to protect us and keep us free.
People know the latest pop star, tabloid headliner, or rap star. Their “fifteen minutes of fame” shouldn’t even last that long! How many astronauts can you name? How many members of the Supreme Court can you list? Do you know how many justices there are on the Supreme Court? What’s the name of the Chief Justice? Can you name all the Presidents? How many Biblical heroes can you name? How many historical figures can you name from the Civil War? World War I? World War II?
America needs heroes.
