Here is the offensive bumbersticker.

Who knew that voicing your support of a TV personality could cost you your job? Union bosses demanded the firing of two senior management personnel at Eglin Air Force Base, because they displayed Duck Dynasty bumper stickers on their vehicles and in their offices.

Union officials of the American Federation of Government Employees found the decals so offensive, they demanded that the two men be fired. Alan Cooper, the executive vice president of the local chapter, explained in an interview with Fox News why displaying the stickers warranted a firing.

“The BUE (bargaining union employee) was clearly offended and disgusted that a senior management official would display the decal on their pod,” read an email Cooper wrote.

“We took offense,” Cooper told me in a telephone interview. “These two particular individuals have a great amount of influence over individuals who may be gay, who may be African-American – and we have a concern they should not be in a position to exert that influence when it comes to promotions.”

The two employees are both military veterans, and volunteers in their community. One of them, who asked not to be named, said accusations of racism and homophobia couldn’t be farther from the truth.

via Fox News:

“My intent was not to offend anybody,” the individual told me. “My intent was to support the show and to show support for his Christian values.”

“I’m pro-family,” he said. “I’m pro-life. I don’t have a problem with anybody who doesn’t agree with me.”

“I disagree with 90 percent of what our Commander in Chief believes in, but I’m not asking anyone to take (an Obama decal) off their vehicle,” he said. “It’s a freedom of speech issue.”

“I’m not taking it off,” he said. “If they want to make me retire early that’s what I’ll do. But I’m not backing down.”

And luckily for the employees and for the sake of sanity, the military commander at Eglin saw no cause to fire the employees. He agreed that displaying a bumper sticker is legally protected speech under the First Amendment.

Union bosses didn’t want these men to just remove the stickers – they wanted these employees gone. People who display such intolerance have no desire to bridge the gap – they’re just angry people. I can think of a few people in this situation who deserve a pink slip. And they don’t support Phil.
