I guess we will let them apply for welfare and food stamps then we can set around a campfire hold hands and sing  kumbaya.

State Department spokesperson Marie Harf told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that killing ISIS militants is not a strategy for defeating the radical Islamist terror group.

Matthews asked Harf if America was “killing enough of them,” referring to members of ISIS. Harf responded:

“We’re killing a lot of them and we’re going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They’re in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs…”

Matthews responded by challenging the notion that the root cause of radical Islamic terrorism can be solved through socio-economic solutions:

“We’re not going to be able to stop that in our lifetime or fifty lifetimes. There’s always going to be poor people. There’s always going to be poor Muslims, and as long as there are poor Muslims, the trumpet’s blowing and they’ll join. We can’t stop that, can we?”

Harf continued to trumpet the Obama administration’s position that ISIS terrorists are really just misguided, poor kids who don’t have an opportunity to make money.

“What makes these seventeen-year-old kids pick up an AK-47 instead of starting a business? Maybe we can try to chip away at this problem,” she concluded.

Despite Harf’s position, President Obama has requested Congress expand his Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF).
