H/T Bearing Arms.
This man is the son of the mental midget Cyrus Vance Sr. that was the Secretary Of State for Jimmy Carter.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. wants you all to know that you’re a bunch of violent, dim-witted hayseeds who cannot possibly safely and sanely carry a concealed weapon in New York City like you do every day of your life as you do everywhere else liberty actually matters.
Gun owners with conceal-carry permits from anywhere in the US would be allowed to tote their pistols around the Big Apple as if it were the Wild West under a proposed federal law — which Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. warned would be “a mistake.”
Gun owners are currently barred from carrying weapons in Gotham without a city permit, which have stringent requirements.
But the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act — which mirrors President Trump’s own stated opinion — would allow anyone with a valid carry permit to use it in all 50 states, just like a driver’s license.
“I think that would be a mistake,” Vance said at a Manhattan Republican Party event Wednesday night.
“Our gun laws I think are a significant part in the rapid and consistent decline in violent crime in New York state and New York City,” said Vance, noting that people carrying an illegal weapon in New York now face up to three-and-a-half years behind bars. “It’s important to have gun laws.”
The bill, introduced Jan. 3 by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), predictably has the backing of the NRA — but faces fierce opposition from New York’s law-enforcement community.
“It’s going to be like the wild, wild West. There could be a lot of shootouts, and not only with cops. If this person who comes [to New York] gets into a dispute, an argument with someone else, their first reaction might be to pull out a firearm and use it in the confrontation,” one police source said.
Another cop also blasted the idea.
“This would lead to anarchy. You’d just make our job ten times harder when you let any Tom, Dick and Harry walk into New York City with their guns in holsters,” the cop said.
New York City’s Sullivan Act was a law written by notoriously corrupt politician Timothy Sullivan, who wanted his political opponents disarmed, so that he and his armed bodyguards had more power.
Sound like anyone else you know?
Men like Sullivan, Bloomberg, and Vance in the upper crust of New York City’s elite have always looked down upon the average citizen as drones unworthy of respect or the same rights that they themselves enjoy. While they enjoyed gated access to secured buildings and bodyguards and other round-the-clock security measures, they apparently feel that the rest of us in flyover country are lesser beings, incapable of using firearms safely or efficiently or with discernment. This attitude reeks of “I’m better than you; you’re too stupid/primal to be trusted with a means of defending your life in my city.”
The attitude from the craven NYPD officials anonymously quoted in the article is no better.
They’ve long enjoyed knowing that the law-abiding are effectively disarmed in the five boroughs, and they’re no doubt intimidated by the idea of facing out-of-town guests who may have better defensive firearms training and equipment than they possess. Somehow, this reality doesn’t bother police officers in most of the country where concealed carry is lawful. I’d consider that a shortcoming of the department, wouldn’t you?
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act favored by Donald Trump and a Republican-controlled Congress is likely to become law.
Maybe Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and these hysterical cops should consider a different line of work, in a nation where liberty isn’t valued.
