Utility: Crews robbed at gunpoint restoring power in Detroit

The savages are running wild in Detroit.

I say let them stay in the dark it will save the taxpayers thousands of dollars in utility payments for the hood rats and their broods.

DETROIT A utility says three line crews have been robbed at gunpoint of cash and cellphones while trying to restore power in Detroit after weekend storms.

Michael Lynch, chief security officer for DTE Energy Co., tells the Detroit Free Press each robbery involved two or three suspects and it’s possible the robberies are related. The Detroit News reports one happened Saturday and the others were Monday.

No employees were injured. Lynch says they’re advised to avoid carrying cash.

The Detroit-based utility is offering a $2,500 reward. Lynch says: “We’re not going to stand for this nonsense of our employees getting held up at gunpoint.”

Crews are working Tuesday to restore power to the last of 158,000 of homes and businesses it serves that lost service. Lynch says security will accompany crews.

Anti-Gun Democrat Lawmaker Blasts Girlfriend’s Car With Shotgun

This is from Bearing Arms.

It had to be a racist cop shooting up Sen. Virgil Smiths girlfriend’s car.

As Sen. Virgil Smith is a son of Obama and we all know how non violent they are.

It seems like one of those anti-gun Democrats in Detroit proved his own inability to control his temper early Sunday morning, as he blasted away with a shotgun to his girlfriend’s car over what should have been a simple domestic argument:

Sources told Local 4 state Sen. Virgil Smith, who represents the fourth district, fired several shots into the woman’s car.

Investigators walked out of Smith’s home with what appeared to be a shotgun wrapped in a garbage bag. Investigators with Detroit police placed it in the backseat of an unmarked car.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday police were called to Smith’s home for reports of shots fired

Sources told Local 4 that early Sunday morning Smith and his girlfriend, a prominent businesswoman from Ann Arbor, got into an argument. Police said the victim told them multiple shots were fired in front of the home at Wexford and Hilldale, on the east side.

Being an anti-gun Democrat in a Democrat-controlled city, Senator Virgil Smith has not been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a weapon within city limits, property damage, or any of the other charges that the non-politically-connected might have faced for such obvious criminal behavior.

Blogger Rob Hoey notes that the trigger-happy Senator Smith is as rabidly anti-gun as you would expect.

Sen. Virgil Smith (D-MI) represents parts of Detroit, Dearborn and all of Allen Park. As a Democrat, it should come as no surprise that he is rated at 0% by the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Ownership.

Smith has voted anti-gun since taking office in the House of Representatives back in 2003 to 2008, and now as a state senator.

The NRA rated Smith “D” regarding his voting on gun rights, which translates to 21% overall.

He voted “nay” on SB 59 bill that: “Expands Areas Where Concealed Weapons are Authorized,” and voted “nay” on SB 789 that “Amends Firearm Licensing Procedures,” that makes obtaining a license easier but with more training.

Presumably, Smith will claim that his (presumably ex-) girlfriend’s 2015 Mercedes Benz was threatening him, and Detroit’s police will bow to political pressure and will either not charge him at all, or will charge him with something  far less consequential than his crime deserves.

It is our sincere hope that authorities take the threat he represents seriously, but in a city corrupted by decades of single party misrule, we’re also realistic, and suspect that politics will once again protect a predator.

How has Detroit Gone from Wealthiest to Poorest in just 50 Years?

This is from Godfather Politics.

Detroit is the result of fifty years of Liberal and DemocRat rule.

America needs to take a real good look at Detroit as this will be America before too much longer.

A few years ago, the funny and intelligent Steven Crowder took his show, Louder with Crowder, on the road to Detroit, Michigan to show how the nation’s best example of liberal government at work has taken what was once America’s wealthiest city and destroyed it.

It really is shocking to see what has happened to Detroit over the last 50 years, especially when one considers that in 1960 Detroit was America’s wealthiest city, and her citizens were among the most prosperous in the nation. Today, Detroit ranks 66 out of 68 in terms of median household income, and half the city has become vacant, run down and condemned to demolition.

However, the problem has most certainly not been lack of money, as the federal and state dollars continue to pour into Detroit unabated. For example, while Detroit has some of the worst schools in America and a student in Detroit is more likely to go to prison than to graduate from High School, but Detroit spends more than $11,000 per student on education, which is almost $1500 more than the national average!

Detroit hasn’t failed in spite of liberal policies… Detroit has failed BECAUSE of liberal policies.

Watch as Steven explains:

These Are The 3 Words This Muslim Man Allegedly Asked Two Strangers Before Stabbing Them

This is from Western

This is why we will never coexist with this Muslim scumbags.

They do not want non-Muslims to exist.

One more reason to avoid Detroit.

They were standing at a bus stop outside of Detroit — two men whose answer to an unexpected question about their religion would suddenly lead to a life-threatening attack.

According to an article in The Washington Post, the assault occurred over the weekend when the victims were asked, “Are you Muslim?”

When they replied that they were not, the questioner — identified by police as 39-year-old Terrence Lavaron Thomas — pulled out a knife and began stabbing them.

Southfield, Michigan Police Chief Eric Hawkins said the attack occurred “without provocation”…except that the alleged assailant — who reportedly identified himself as Muslim — didn’t like the fact that the two men said they weren’t.

Both victims are in their early 50′s. One was stabbed five times in the attack. The other was stabbed in the hand as he tried to stop the attack, Hawkins said.

Thomas then fled the scene, Hawkins said. Police arrested him “within minutes.” He was carrying two knives — one of which appeared to be the one used in the attack — and some marijuana, according to Hawkins.

Terrence Thomas has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, bond set at $1 million. Investigators say he could also be charged with a hate crime, as it appeared the knife attack may well have been prompted by the victims’ religious beliefs.

Meantime, in a case where a non-Muslim man allegedly shot to death three Muslim students in North Carolina, the victims’ families as well as some foreign governments are rushing to judgment, insisting that the killings were hate crimes motivated by the perpetrator’s prejudice against people who practice Islam.

The continuing cries of “hatred for Muslims” and “Islamophobia” in that North Carolina case are spreading even though police investigating the three murders, according to a Washington Post report, say they “stemmed from a parking spot dispute.”

The suspect in those killings, Craig Hicks, has been indicted on three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his Chapel Hill neighbors.

Detroit Man Walks 21 Miles to and From Work Each Day

This is from Godfather Politics.

James Robertson is a true role model for working people.

I doubt if any of today’s slackers would walk twenty one blocks round trip to work.

While most others in his situation would give up and give in — become wards of the state by collecting collect welfare, food stamps, etc. — 56-year-old James Robertson refuses. He has too much pride. He is making his way on $10.55 per hour working at an industrial plastic molding plant, making plastic components for the automotive industry.

Okay, that’s not particularly unique, but this is. Mr. Robertson walks 21 miles round-trip per day, five days a week, to get to that job. And this is not like walking that distance in Miami. This is Detroit, where the weather is brutal at times, and so are the neighborhoods. James has been mugged once but prefers not to discuss it.

He trudges over 100 miles every week in some of the worst winter conditions imaginable. The Detroit Free Press reported that Robertson once did own a car, a 1988 Honda Accord, but it died 10 years ago.

So for the last 10 years, James Robertson has been walking to work. He works the 2 PM to 10 PM shift at the plant and says he loves his job and the people he works with. Unfortunately there is no bus service that can take him where he needs to go.

His boss at Schain Mold and Engineering told the Free Press that “I set our attendance standard by this man. I say, if this man can get here, walking all those miles through snow and rain, well, I’ll tell you, I have people in Pontiac 10 minutes away and they say they can’t get here – bull! He’s never missed. I’ve seen him come in here wringing wet.”

In case you read that too quickly, his boss said “he’s never missed,” meaning James Robertson has not missed a single day of work. Not one!

Robert says he can survive any situation. “It’s extremely tiring, no question about it, but it’s also the will to do it.” He averages about two hours of sleep per night and sleeps a lot on the weekend but says he “can’t imagine not working.”

He says that by the time Friday rolls around he is mentally and physically drained, and at those moments he must pull something extra out of himself. He repeats the old saying, “If there is a will there is a way.” It’s something he’s never forgotten.

On how he does it, Robertson says, “I keep a rhythm in my head. I’m not saying I’m a member of some church. But just before I get home, every night, I say, Lord, keep me safe.”

The Free Press reports that Robertson says that “It’s not just the $1700 monthly paycheck that lures him back to work each day but the very essence of being around his friendly coworkers whom he calls family.” Evidently the boss’s wife has also taken a liking to him, preparing a home-cooked meal for James each evening.

Mr. Robertson’s story has attracted many generous individuals. One such is a student at Wisconsin State University, Evan Leedy, a computer science major. He said he was so moved by Mr. Robertson’s story that he set up a GoFundMe site to elicit donations to help the man. His target was $5000.

As I write this, I see that the fund has raised over $69,000 to go directly to Mr. Robertson. A nearby car dealership, Rogers Chevrolet in Woodhaven Wisconsin, has offered to give Mr. Robertson a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz or Sonic.

Angela Osborne, customer service specialist at the dealership, said “He gets to choose. We were just impressed with his determination.”

We should all be impressed with his determination. This is the true and quintessential American spirit — never give up — never quit — never say die.

It says a lot of not only the never surrender spirit of James Robertson, but also the giving spirit of the most generous people on Earth, the American citizen.

VP Joe Biden speaks in Detroit on Labor Day

This is from My Fox

Slow Joe is full of crap his union thugs have harmed America more than actually helped her.

We need to break the backs of every union from coast to coast..

Several hundred people, mostly union workers, crowded the site of the old Tiger Stadium to hear vice president Joe Biden speak Monday morning ahead of the organized labor’s annual parade.

The vice president’s speech helped kick off the start of the Detroit Labor Day parade. This is the second time Biden has been in Detroit on Labor Day in the past three years.

Biden spoke about the power of the union and how the union really is the reason why many of us have rights. He also stressed the importance of all Americans sticking together and, if we do that, how we will succeed. He believes if the middle class does well, so will everyone else.

“The American people have not stopped dreaming. The American people have not walked away from what they believe they are entitled to. Just give them a chance! No hand out – just give them a chance!” Biden said.

VIDEO: Click on the video in the video player above to watch Biden’s address. You can watch the full version from the Fox 2 YouTube page, or a recap in a report from Fox 2’s Robin Murdoch.

Biden left his supporters with the reassurance that America should not give up and that we are coming back.

He was in town the same day Michigan saw its first minimum wage hike in six years. The wage increased by 10 percent and is the kick-off to a 25 percent overall increase before it will be capped at $9.25 in 2018.

Biden was preceded on the stage by labor leaders and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer and Gary Peters, the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate.

Fox 2 was told the vice president will spend at least the rest of the afternoon in Detroit, but his exact plans were not disclosed.

Black Families in Detroit Appeal for U.N. Help After City Cuts Off Water

This is from Godfather Politics.

First off it is none of the United Nations business what goes on in America.

Detroit is the result of over forty years of Liberal DemocRat and Union Thug ruling.

You reap what you sow.

This is the worst violation of the human right to water I have ever seen outside of the worst slums in the poorest countries in failed states of the global South,” said Maude Barlow, founder of the Blue Planet Project.

Thousands of families in Detroit, mostly black, have had their water cut off because they can’t afford to pay water rates that are nearly double the average in the rest of the country.

In March, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department announced that it would shut off water service for 1,500 to 3,000 customers every week if their water bills were not paid. Clearly not understanding the root of the problem, the City Council just last week approved an 8.7-percent water rate increase.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the average water bill is $75, nearly double the average of $40 nationwide.

The DWSD says that more than 80,000 residences, in a city with a population of 680,000, are in arrears on their water bills. According to CBS, that means nearly half of Detroit families can’t pay for their water.

The DWSD hasn’t said how many  have been cut off, but it numbers in the thousands, according to activist groups like the Blue Planet Project, which have appealed to the United Nations to step in to ease the “humanitarian crisis.”

Blue Planet and several other groups have sent a letter to Catarina de Albuquerque, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Right to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation, urging the United Nations to become involved and stop the city of Detroit from continuing to shut off water.

The Detroit People’s Water Board, the Blue Planet Project, the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and Food and Water Watch have also made appeals to the state of Michigan and the federal government.

There are thousands of families, including those with sick and elderly members, who cannot bathe, cook or even flush their toilets, Barlow said. “This is unprecedented,” she added.

Fox25 in Oklahoma City reported that sources in the city claimed the reason for the 119 percent increase in rates at the root of the situation include a decline of 75 percent of federal assistance for water infrastructure since the 1970s, leading to aging infrastructure that has not been replaced, and stricter water standards that require expensive new systems and technology to meet.

So in a word, 40-plus years of liberalism.

Liberal politics have led Detroit to a poverty rate of 40 percent, a water system that is failing faster than the circulatory system in a 400-pound mayonnaise factory taste tester, and ultimately a decision to squeeze the last drop of blood out of the poor and drop the carcasses like flies in a spider’s web.

And what is the solution proposed?

Have the United Nations take over an American City. …

Let that sink in a moment.

I have great sympathy for the citizens of Detroit who have had their water turned off. I think they have been used as pawns in a game they’re probably not even aware of, and they desperately need help from their fellow Americans. Whatever responsibility individuals may have for their situation, I don’t believe in kicking people when they are in great need.

However it may appear that this situation is the result of a long chain of stupid behaviors on the part of Detroit officials and the voters who put them in office, something just doesn’t sit right.

I can’t prove it, but I believe that somebody somewhere planned for this outcome, leading finally to an excellent excuse for the U.N. to put its foot in America’s door (or other aperture, if you prefer).

With the Central American invasion at our southern border, could this be the thing that leads to a different kind of invasion, starting at our northern flank?

The Obama Administration seems completely inadequate to the task of stopping the southern border crisis, if indeed it isn’t the cause of it, as many suspect.

How likely is King Putt to intervene in Detroit?

Suppose for a moment that the U.N. steps in and essentially takes legal control of Detroit. What happens when it decides that the southern border looks like a humanitarian crisis it should intervene in, too?

Then imagine a protest against the U.N. inside our country being put down by some of those heavily armed police departments and federal agencies Obama has been beefing up. Any violence could be another excuse for the U.N. to take control of police assets in select cities. …

If the U.N. sets foot in Detroit, then it’s time to take all bets off the table.

There Is A Good Case For Reparations

This is from Town Hall.

The author blows holes in the reparations case.

Progressives have long called for reparations—payments to blacks for the horrors of slavery. These were routinely dismissed because they’re absurd – those who suffered the injustice of slavery and those who perpetrated it are long dead, and most Americans of every national origin had nothing to do with it.

But the push for reparations truly never was about slavery, it’s about redistribution of wealth and perpetrating the victimhood mentality that keeps people voting for progressives. To think they’d ever stop would be like thinking a heroin addict wouldn’t steal your iPhone if you let them crash on your couch – it’s just not going to happen.

Enter The Atlantic. Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates has brought the issue back to the forefront of progressives’ minds and set a debate raging on MSNBC. Well, as much of a “debate” that can happen when both participants agree on every point.

Coates’ article, “The Case for Reparations: Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole,” lays out a series of damning government policies and actions that directly harmed, if not targeted, black Americans and held them back economically.

The specific claims of Coates have been refuted by people much smarter than I, and I suggest you read the original article and the rebuttals to form your own conclusion. But if progressives are interested in reparations for past wrongs, they should target those who perpetrated them – the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party was the party of slavery. It gained power from it, profited from it, and fought to keep it.

Jim Crow was the spawn of racist Democrats who, angry they could no longer own slaves, set about creating a series of laws, both on the books and off, to deny blacks the dignity they deserved and their rights as full citizens.

It was Democrats who pioneered “separate but equal,” standing in schoolhouse doors to keep out children who only wanted to learn without having to travel miles to an inferior “black school.”

It was Democrats who, through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, instituted mortgage policies that led directly to the housing market crash and record foreclosures in black communities.

It was Democrats who, through a continual string of lies, promised to right the wrongs their policies caused, only to make them worse. Their legislative and regulatory actions created a permanence to government dependence, trapping generations in poverty and a feeling of hopelessness.

Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, and every major city with a large black population is in or on the verge of financial and social bankruptcy. Vacant lots, abandoned houses, rampant drug dealing and use, gang violence, massive job losses, astronomical crime rates, failed social and governmental services—all are staples of these cities, as is generations of Democratic political leadership. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

There’s a lot of power in telling people they’re powerless, but that you’ll help them. If you convince people they can’t get ahead, that the system, as progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., put it in her 2012 convention speech, “is rigged” against them, many will believe you. If you convince people they are victims of discrimination, be it from skin color or the economics in which they were born, then normal failures in life – such as not getting a job you want – are not chalked up to someone being a better fit or you simply not being the best candidate, but to that “rigged” system. That deflates the human spirit, kills aspiration, and perpetuates the cycle.

There is no power in empowering others. But there is a lot in the opposite. And it is the opposite in which the Democratic Party, led by progressives, lives, and has always lived. They couch their actions in the vernacular of liberty – freeing people from “job lock,” for example – but the results are always the same. Government can’t grant you liberty; you’re born with it, government can only infringe upon it. People who take the bait don’t realize they’ve swallowed the hook too.

Reparations are in order, but they should not be sought from the government—it was only the conduit through which oppression was carried out. They should be sought from the source of that oppression, its originators and perpetrators to this day—the Democratic Party.

As weather heats up in Detroit, so does violence

This is from The Detriot News.

With all of these shootings in Detriot the only press coverage is of the whiny punk in California.

The dead perpetrator that was shot by his buddy is a Darwin Award Winner.

Detroit— The unofficial start of summer has ushered in a wave of violence in the city, with 36 shootings and four slayings since the Memorial Day weekend kicked off Friday.

Among the shootings: An assailant who died when his cohort’s gun went off while he pistol-whipped a man; an 11-year-old girl who was among five injured during a gunfight in broad daylight; and a 15-year-old shot by a high school classmate who reportedly was angry he wasn’t invited to a party.

“It was a brutal weekend, there’s no getting around it,” Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said.

“We’re doing what we can. Crime is down and we’re making good arrests. But there’s only so much the police can do,” said Dolunt. “A lot of these shootings couldn’t have been prevented. A lot of them happened inside houses, and we simply can’t be inside everyone’s home.”

As of Wednesday, shootings in Detroit were down 15 percent from the same period last year, from 425 to 361. Overall violent crime is down 10 percent.

Still, with 10 percent of this year’s shootings occurring since the holiday weekend, police officials are concerned. Dolunt discussed the spike in violence during Wednesday’s COMPSTAT meeting, at which department officials meet weekly to discuss crime trends and strategies to address them.

Dolunt said police are trying to balance being proactive while ensuring they aren’t violating people’s rights.

“(Chief James Craig) insists on constitutional policing, so we can’t just arrest people because we think they’re doing something wrong,” he said. “Nobody wants to violate the citizens’ civil rights, but we also have to be aggressive.”

Police scrambled during the weekend to investigate the steady stream of shootings, 31 on the city’s west side:

■A man was killed at 11 p.m. Monday, when two men were reportedly assaulting a victim near the intersection of St. Mary’s and Elmira on the northwest side. “One of the men was pistol-whipping the victim when his gun went off, and his partner was shot in the neck,” Dolunt said.

■An 11-year-old girl was playing outside her home in the 14800 block of Strathmoor about 4:45 p.m. when a group of unknown men opened fire, igniting a gunfight. The girl was listed in serious condition after being shot in the leg, while four adults also were wounded.

■ A 15-year-old boy was playing a video game in his home in the 19000 block of Keating on the east side at about 10:30 p.m. when a bullet crashed through the window, striking him in the chest with a non-fatal wound. “The shooter was identified as the victim’s classmate at high school who was upset he didn’t get invited to a party,” Dolunt said.

■A 14-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy were shot at about 5 a.m. Monday as they sat inside a stolen van near Beechwood and Pacific on the west side. Police say the victims were riding with a 13-year-old friend who stole the van. The teens are expected to recover.

■Johnny Clyburn, a 41-year-old Air National Guard airman, was fatally shot Tuesday morning, allegedly by his fiancee’s 19-year-old mentally ill son. The teen also shot his 39-year-old mother twice; she was listed in temporary serious condition.

■Two bodies were found inside cars over the weekend: A 40-year-old woman, discovered Saturday in the 4300 block of McGraw with two gunshot wounds; and an unknown victim found Tuesday inside the trunk of a burned-out car

Several of this week’s shootings were drug-related, Dolunt said.

“In a lot of these cases, the victim tells us they just heard shots and felt pain,” he said. “That usually means they’re up to no good.”

John Dingell to Retire After Nearly 60 Years in House

This is from the New York Times.

Little Johnny Dingell like so other DemocRats opting to retire rather than getting embarrassed trying to get reelected.

DemocRats are abandoning Obamacare like rats from a sinking ship.

Dingell’s wife is considering a run for her husband’s House seat so they can keep Detroit on the DemocRat Plantation.

WASHINGTON — Representative John D. Dingell Jr., Democrat of Michigan, the longest-serving member of Congress in history, on Monday was expected to announce that he will not seek re-election in 2014, and will leave Congress in 2015.

Mr. Dingell, 87, has served in the House for more than 58 years, under 11 presidents.

He made his first appearance on the House floor at the age of 6, when his father was elected in 1933; he went on to become a congressional page; and after his father died in 1955 he successfully ran for his seat at the age of 29.

Mr. Dingell, a former Democratic powerhouse, asserted jurisdiction over vast expanses of federal policy as the intimidating chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee. In 2008 his fellow Democrats ousted him from the committee chairmanship, where he had reigned as the top Democrat for nearly 30 years.

His wife of more than three decades, Deborah, is a power in her own right in Washington, has served as an auto industry executive and is a close adviser to her husband. She recently considered, but ultimately decided against, a Senate bid. There is speculation she might run to fill his seat when he retires.
