Texas professor: Americans are ‘unable to handle gun ownership’

This is from Campus Reform.org.

One more member of the academic elites informing the great unwashed as they call us that they know better.

What part of shall not be infringed do they not understand?

In a column for the Dallas Morning News, University of Texas at Austin professor John Traphagan said Americans are ‘unable to handle’ gun ownership.

According to Traphagan, the U.S. should curtail or eliminate the ability to purchase guns and ‘prohibit many forms of gun ownership.’

UT

Americans are “unable to handle” their constitutional right to keep and bear arms, according to one Texas professor.

In a recent column for the Dallas Morning News, John Traphagan—a professor of religious studies and anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin—lambasted Americans for wanting to boost gun ownership and expand concealed and open carry laws. According to Traphagan, the 2012 shooting in Aurora, Colo. and recent biker gang shoot-out in Waco, Texas illustrate an epidemic of “ongoing violence” which he says Americans have become anesthetized to.

“There is simply no need for a civilized society to tolerate the type of gun-related violence that Americans seem to accept as normal,” Traphagan wrote. “Other modern industrial countries have realized… that it is unnecessary for people in a free society to have easy access to guns.”

According to Bloomberg Business, the number of individuals killed in mass shootings in the U.S. over the last three decades equals fewer “than a tenth of 1 percent” of the number of people murdered in America during that same time frame, as estimated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Still, Traphagan maintains that Americans, as a whole, “do not seem to be able to handle gun ownership in a way that permits maintenance of civil society.”

“[T]he evidence is clear — a heavily armed population in the U.S. is not secure because our culture does not seem to lend itself well to allowing the proliferation of guns,” Traphagan wrote.

Instead of allowing for widespread private gun ownership, Traphagan says the solution to preventing additional shootings is to enact additional laws that “prohibit many forms of gun ownership, significantly [curtail] or [eliminate] access to and the ability to purchase guns, and [implement] programs in which the government confiscates or purchases illegal guns already in circulation among the public.”

Traphagan cites the implementation of strict gun control laws in countries including Japan, Australia, and South Korea as standards the U.S. should follow.

“Americans need to recognize that one of the greatest threats to national security is their own heavily armed population,” Traphagan wrote. “We need to enact legislation that will greatly reduce gun-related crimes and protect people from the dangers associated with widespread gun access and ownership.”

However, according to a comprehensive 2007 study by criminologists at Harvard University, stricter gun laws in European countries have failed to effectuate significant change.

“There is a compound assertion that (a) guns are uniquely available in the United States compared with other modern developed nations, which is why (b) the United States has by far the highest murder rate,” the authors of the study wrote, adding, “though these assertions have been endlessly repeated, statement (b) is, in fact, false and statement (a) is substantially so.”

Traphagan concludes by asserting that Americans are better off living in a society that is secure “because people have peace of mind and experience freedom from violence” than in a secure society where “everyone is ready to shoot on another.”

Despite Traphagan’s confidence in stricter gun laws, Americans have demonstrated mixed feelings towards measures to enhance gun control. According to a 2013 Rasmussen report, less than 20 percent of Americans viewed stricter gun control laws as the most effective means of reducing the number of mass shootings and 62 percent said they do not trust the government to “fairly enforce gun control laws.”

FBI Shaped Report To Suggest Increase In Mass Shootings, When They’d Actually Been HALVED

This is from Bearing Arms.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.”
Mark Twain

We’re rapidly reaching a point where no part of the Executive Branch can be trusted.

The stunning revelation that the Federal Bureau of Investigation shaped data on mass shootings in an apparent bid to generate support for gun control is just the latest crooked action by a rogue Obama Administration.

John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center says that the FBI’s data shows signs of intentional manipulation.

FBI figures released last September appear to show so-called “mass shooter” attacks and deaths have dramatically increased since 2000. The report asserted there were a total 160 such incidents in public places between 2000 and 2013, with attacks dramatically increased to 17 in 2013 from just one in 2000. The statistics also showed murders jumping to 86 from just seven over the span.

But Lott’s group said a major flaw is the fact that the data was gleaned from news reports, and noted recent accounts were more accessible, and thus over-represented. Recent cases of the far more common “active shooting incidents” were added to legitimate cases of mass shooting incidents, making the more recent years covered by the report appear to have a large increase in both mass shootings and deaths from them.

The media most often took the numbers at face value, allowing for the perception of an increase in mass shootings and deaths from them, Lott said. A counter report by the CPRCshows that if the biases and errors were corrected, the Bureau’s data would show that the annual growth rate for homicides in mass shootings had been cut in half, Lott said.

He suspects manipulation, and not merely mistakes.

“The administration has obviously been willing to do a lot to push for gun control; with everything from ‘Operation Choke Point’ to ‘Fast and Furious,’ and this is just part of that push. Given the level of politicization in [the] Department of Justice, this is not particularly surprising.”

Another researcher interviewed in the article assets that while the media certain ran with the false data, he puts the blame on the media for misinterpreting the FBI’s report.

So is spreading this false claim the FBI’s fault, or the media’s fault?

Yes.

As a general rule, the media is full of people who are intellectually lazy, who are not experts in their fields, and who have overt political biases which are easily exploited.

As most reporters are predisposed towards an anti-gun viewpoint, their confirmation bias is exploited by those (in this instance, the FBI) who want to use the reporters to shape a false narrative.

The FBI intentionally wrote their report in such a way that it would likely be read in such a way as to give a false impression. They then refused to correct this false impressions when they went to print, allowing reporters to push a lie.

In this instance, the media were stooges… but they were willing stooges, eager to share a lie that they wanted to believe.

It’s hard to claim that the accomplice was a victim.

Fast & Furious Bombshell: FBI Implicated in Death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry

This is from the Independent  Journal Review.

Is the cone of silence finally getting shattered?

It is time someone paid the price for Border Agent Brian Terry’s murder.

Why are the Border Agents using bean bags instead of

real ammo?

Operation Fast & Furious, the U.S. government’s  to run guns to Mexican drug cartels, has a major new development. According to ATF whistleblower John Dodson, the FBI was involved in the drug snatch operation that led to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

The Arizona Republic had a report on Dodson’s revelations, which is catalogued in a new book:

A federal agent who exposed the Justice Department’s flawed gun-trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious says the FBI played a key role in events leading to the 2010 murder near Nogales, Ariz., of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

John Dodson, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, contends that the bandits who killed Terry were working for FBI operatives and were sent to the border to do a drug rip-off using intelligence from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

“I don’t think the (FBI) assets were part of the rip-off crew,” Dodson said. “I think they were directing the rip crew.”

Dodson’s comments to The Arizona Republic amplify assertions he made in his recently released book, “The Unarmed Truth,” about his role as a whistle-blower in the Fast and Furious debacle. […]

An inspector general’s report suggests miscommunication among security agencies, but this is the first time the FBI has been implicated in the tactical operation that led to Terry’s death.

Some of Dodson’s narrative is documented in the Justice Department inspector general’s review, which described how Fast and Furious became tangled with collateral cases under the FBI and DEA. The inspector general’s report says the agencies’ failure to appreciate the significance of the inter-connected cases was “troubling.” However, it does not allege that the DEA knew of a drug shipment going through Peck Canyon, or that the FBI passed such information to informants. [Read more]

Border Patrol Agent Briant Terry was killed in an ambush on December 14th, 2010 during a patrol 11 miles from the Mexican border at Peck Canyon, in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. While Terry and his crew fired non-lethal beanbags at the assailants, the drug cartel members fired back with real bullets – killing the 40-year old agent.

After the president downplayed Fast & Furious as a “phony scandal,” the Terry family released this statement in July 2012:

“These deaths are real. My son’s death was real. I am outraged that President Obama is talking about phony scandals when he knows all too well that my son was a victim of Operation Fast and Furious that was authorized by members of his Justice Department and a U.S. Attorney that he appointed. Operation Fast and Furious was all too real for me and my family, and it directly contributed to my son’s murder,” Josephine Terry, the mother of Brian Terry said in astatement. “Mr. President, come to Michigan and I will show you my son’s gravethen let’s have a conversation about your definition of phony scandals.”

The Terry family sought damages against the federal government for a wrongful death suit, but were denied in November due to legal restrictions on families receiving death benefits and civil damages.

In other recent news, Jaime Avila, who bought the guns that were left at Terry’s murder scene, was sentenced to 57 months in prison earlier in December.

Several ATF agents and DOJ officials involved in the botched operation were reshuffled in an act of superficial accountability. Attorney General Eric Holder refused to turn over all documents related to the operation, and was held in contempt by the House of Representatives in June 2012.

Build Gun Shops as Sanctuaries Against Gun Violence

This is from Godfather Politics.

This idea could not make Chicago any worse crime wise.

Imagine you are speaking to a friend. He claims his kids are straight ‘A’ students. The reason they are is that he has developed a system that guarantees better grades. No matter what the situation, he can better anyone’s grades.

Your logical reaction to such a claim is, “show me the proof.” Don’t just throw out these wild claims. Show me what your children’s grades were prior and what they are now. Then show me that it was your system that caused the positive change.

It seems reasonable for him to have to prove his system is a success, is it not? You wouldn’t just sign your children on without some proof, would you?

So why is it that we don’t view gun control in the same way? There is not a shred of evidence that disarming citizens makes us safer, yet the left has been clamoring to do just that.

There are organizations like Demand Action.org, whose slogan is Demand Action to End Gun Violence.”

They want us all to “Join more than 1,000 mayors and over 1.5 million grassroots supporters to demand that Congress take action to end gun violence.”

There are self-righteous actors and actresses who cry and plead for us to “Demand a Plan” to end gun violence, many starring in action movies that kill more in the span of the movie than have been killed in all American mass shootings nationwide.  Many also have their own armed security.

Yet interestingly, none of these nimrods is “Demanding a Plan” for a city like Chicago where 80% of those murdered are black and 83% of all murders are committed with a gun.

According to new crime statistics released by the Federal Bureau of InvestigationChicago has become America’s murder capital. There were 500 murders in Chicago last year (2012), the FBI said, surpassing New York City, which had 419. However, the Chicago Police have disputed that figure of 500. They claim it was more like between 506 and 532. Stupid FBI. The Feds can’t get anything right.

Yet Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel signed the petition Mayors Against Illegal Guns. How is it possible that Chicago has become murder-central? Didn’t the murderers get the memo that the mayor signed the petition? You mean that wasn’t good enough?

In September IBD reported that “Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, an avid gun-control advocate and opponent of Illinois’ concealed carry law, held another of what has become a series of press conferences displaying guns seized by Chicago cops — some 5,095 in the first 37 weeks of 2013 — along with a lecture on crime and gun control. But he inadvertently found common ground with Second Amendment defenders when he noted that while guns are being seized, the gun criminals are often allowed to go free.”

“We seize nine guns for everyone that the NYPD seizes,” McCarthy said. “That’s not success that we’re talking about,” he added. “We’re talking about the fact that they shouldn’t be here in the first place and when we arrest those people — they don’t go to jail.”

Yet, to these leftist idiots, the guns are the problem.

Not a single gun shop or gun range can be found in Chicago because they are outlawed. Handguns were banned in Chicago for decades, until 2010, when the United States Supreme Court ruled that the city had gone too far, leading city leaders to settle for restrictions some describe as the closest they could get legally to a ban without a ban. Despite a continuing legal fight, Illinois remains the only state in the nation with no provision to let private citizens carry guns in public.

A gun shop has more firepower per square foot than anywhere, short of a military armory. Ever wonder why we never here of anyone robbing a gun store? Me either. Therefore logic would dictate that a gun shop is one of the safest places in America, yet the left would have people believe more guns automatically equals more violence and more killing. And we gun owners are all a bunch of lunatic would-be killers.

So, as a gun-toting lunatic, I say we “Demand a Plan” to place a gun shop on every street corner in the city of Chicago. There is certainly more empirical data that my idea is more legitimate than banning guns. As an added benefit, anyone being threatened by a gun-toting lunatic can simply duck into the nearest gun shop and claim sanctuary.

Problem solved.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns Has Its Share Of ‘Illegal’ Mayors

This is from Personal Liberty Digest.

Bloomberg’s goon squad needs to clean up their act.

Before telling the rest of America how to live.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns Has Its Share Of ‘Illegal’ MayorsThe New York Post recently pointed out an interesting fact about Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), the gun control project started by outgoing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino: Some of its members haven’t fared so well in staying on the right side of all the other laws they’re sworn, as mayors, to uphold.

From DUIs to misdemeanor endangermentcharges (involving guns) to plea deals Federalfor bribery indictments, the mayors of MAIG don’t always do their part to preserve the group’s squeaky-clean public reputation.

From the Post:

The latest of the legally challenged is Mayor Gordon Jenkins of Monticello, NY. Last week, he was arrested for driving under the influence and for literally punching a police department clock, which forced cops to handcuff him to a chair.

He’s not alone. Over in Spring Valley, Mayor Noramie Jasmin was arrested for accepting bribes from an FBI informant in April. In Marcus Hook, Pa., Mayor James Schiliro was arrested for reckless endangerment after firing a handgun inside his home during a drunken argument.

Down in Gainesville, Fla., Mayor Craig Lowe was charged with a DUI after being found asleep at the scene of a car accident. Meanwhile, other MAIG members from Hartford to Detroit have found themselves facing prosecutors over charges that include felony corruption, assault and attempted sex crimes with a child.

In order, those last three include:

Felony corruption: Former Hartford, Conn., Mayor Eddie A. Perez was convicted three years ago  of receiving a bribe, being an accessory to the fabrication of evidence, conspiracy to fabricate evidence, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny by extortion and criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny by extortion.

Assault: Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded no contest to assaulting or obstructing a public officer in 2008 as part of a larger plea deal that also saw him resign from office and plead guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice.

Attempted Sex Crimes With A Child: In 2010, former Racine, Wis., Mayor Gary Becker gotthree years in prison following a sensational scandal in which he was arrested after agreeing on the Internet to meet a child for sex at a Milwaukee mall. Becker was charged with attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, possession of child pornography, child enticement, use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, attempt to expose a child to harmful material and misconduct in office.

California Muslim planned to fake his own death and become “soldier for jihad”

I am shocked this Kalifornia man could get such racist and

Islamophobic idea about the religion of peace.SNARK!

Anyone with an IQ above a bag of hammers knows Islam

is a murdering cult of death that has a pedophile leader.

Somehow this convert to Islam got the outrageously mistaken and frankly Islamophobic idea that jihad meant waging war against unbelievers. How did he get that idea? No one seems to care. After all, it has never happened before and never will again, right? Why should law enforcement care about such a remote possibility?

“Prosecutor: American arrested in California planned to assist al-Qaida, aid terrorism,” from the Associated Press, October 21 (thanks to Kenneth):

LOS ANGELES – A 24-year-old American charged with attempting to assist al-Qaida in international terrorism was enticed into confessing to an undercover FBI agent who posed as a recruiter for the extremist organization and provided him with a false passport, a prosecutor told a judge Monday. In an extensive inquiry, U.S. District Judge John Walter demanded more information on the case against Sinh Vinh Ngo Nguyen of Garden Grove, expressing skepticism about some of the evidence. His questioning revealed new facts about the case that depicts Nguyen as a wannabe terrorist with no special skills to offer al-Qaida.

Nguyen appeared in court with his hands shackled to his waist. His appearance was dramatically changed from the time of his arrest, when he had long hair and a beard. He was clean shaven with a close cropped haircut and made no comment during the hearing. He was ordered held without bail.

Nguyen has pleaded not guilty to two charges of making a false statement on a passport and attempting to provide material support and resources to a terrorist organization.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Heinz said evidence against Nguyen was gathered by a confidential informant and an undercover FBI agent who posed as an al-Qaida recruiter. Nguyen had reached out on the Internet and on his Facebook page to join the terrorist group, the prosecutor said.He was arrested Oct. 11 at a Santa Ana bus station as he prepared to board a bus for Mexico with plane tickets to his ultimate destination in Pakistan, authorities said. The undercover agent escorted him to the bus and had told him they would be meeting “his sheik” in Peshawar, the prosecutor said.

When agents moved in to arrest him, Nguyen exclaimed, “‘How did you guys find out?'” Heinz said.

The prosecutor said Nguyen had his fake passport, $1,850 in Syrian currency and a pamphlet with extensive instructions on shooting and setting up battle plans.

In his home, she said they found three swords, two large axes, two hatchets and a copy of the famous tome, “The Art of War.”

Heinz said the government would allege that Nguyen planned to offer himself as a trainer of some 30 al-Qaida forces for an ambush against coalition forces in Syria, where he had already spent five months fighting with rebels.

“He would train them in shooting,” Heinz said….

“He confessed on the 50 hours of interviews,” the prosecutor said, relating Nguyen’s plan to go to Pakistan, fake his own death and assume a new identity “to be a soldier for Jihad.”

The FBI operative told Nguyen getting a fake passport would be a lot easier than faking his death and offered help. The prosecutor said Nguyen filled out the passport request with a new name, Hasan Abu Omar Ghannoum, and gave it to the agent, who sent it to the U.S. government which issued the passport….

FBI investigates possible water supply threat in Wichita, Kansas

This is from Jihad Watch.

How many more such threats are not being reported?

Will we hear about water supplies being attacked?

How many people will be murdered because of the silence?

The thoroughly compromised, clueless and politically correct FBI refuses to “discuss the nature of the threats or the number of cities affected.” That reticence in itself points to Islamic jihadists, the one threat that the FBI is forbidden to call by name or confront directly. But even if these threats come from those mythical “Christian extremists” or some other source that our political and media elites love to scapegoat, the jihadi threat to the water supply is real. And as far back as 2002, the feds arrested two jihadis who were carrying plans about how to poison water supplies. In 2003, al-Qaeda threatened to poison water supplies in Western countries. In 2011, a jihadi in Spain likewise planned to poison water supplies.

And in May 2013, seven Muslim “chemical engineers” were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir, a key supply of water for Boston, after midnight. Only months later and indirectly did we hear that it was a “criminal matter.” That same month, jihadists were caught in Canada who had considered poisoning air and water to murder up to 100,000 people.

“FBI investigates possible water supply threat in Wichita, Kansas,” by Alice Mannette for Reuters, October 18 (thanks to Lookmann):

(Reuters) – The FBI is investigating possible threats to the water supply systems in Wichita, Kansas, and several other Midwestern cities that are as yet unsubstantiated, a spokeswoman said on Friday. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation learned of the threats in the past two days and has contacted the water supply facilities and law enforcement offices for the municipalities, said Bridget Patton, a spokeswoman for the FBI office in Kansas City, Missouri.

Patton declined to discuss the nature of the threats or the number of cities affected. She said investigators had been sent out in response to the reports, but offered no details.

“We were made aware of the threat,” Patton said. “We have not been able to substantiate any of the threats.”

Wichita city officials warned employees in emails to be on guard for suspicious activities. City officials also told residents the water is safe to drink and the public will be notified immediately if this changes..

University professor says God is a white racist

This is from BizPac Review.

This is why our colleges are graduating idiots.

Sadly many professors have such radical views.

The University of Pennsylvania has more than its share of idiots.

Anthea Butler

While those on the left look to place blame for George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the death of Trayvon Martin, a radical professor said it’s because God is a white racist.

In an editorial published on Sunday, Anthea Butler, a religious professor at the University of Pennsylvania, proclaimed God is “a white racist god with a problem.”

“God ain’t good all of the time. In fact, sometimes, God is not for us. As a black woman in an nation that has taken too many pains to remind me that I am not a white man, and am not capable of taking care of my reproductive rights, or my voting rights, I know that this American god ain’t my god. As a matter of fact, I think he’s a white racist god with a problem. More importantly, he is carrying a gun and stalking young black men.”

Butler, who accused Walmart of being sharecroppers and slave owners earlier this year, acts like the country is still in 1950s Mississippi when she said “most good conservative Christians in America think… whatever makes them protected, safe, and secure, is worth it at the expense of the black and brown people they fear.”

“Their god is the god that wants to erase race, make everyone act ‘properly’ and respect, as the president said, ‘a nation of laws’; laws that they made to crush those they consider inferior,” she continued.

Never mind that a black man, President Barack Obama, is charged with the execution of the law, and another black man, Attorney General Eric Holder, heads up the federal department responsible for the enforcement of the law.

Nonetheless, Butler asks: “Is God the old white male racist looking down from white heaven, ready to bless me if I just believe the white men like Rick Perry who say the Zimmerman case has nothing to do with race?”

Joining Texas Gov. Rick Perry in that opinion just happens to be the Federal Bureau of Investigations — which falls under Eric Holder. After an extensive investigation of the Trayvon Martin shooting in June 2012, the FBI concludedthat there was no evidence to support Zimmerman acted out of racial hatred.

In drawing to a close, Butler is as divisive as she is politically expedient:

“As a historian of American and African-American religion, I know that the Trayvon Martin moment is just one moment in a history of racism in America that, in large part, has its underpinnings in Christianity and its history.”

Speaking of God, may He bless those with the misfortune of being students in her classroom.

DOJ trolling for email tips in Zimmerman probe

This is from Fox News Politics.

This is an outrageous abuse of power.

You can not get the verdict you want go on a fishing

expedition to railroad George Zimmerman.

I guess the F.B.I. report saying that Zimmerman was not a racists

means nothing.

More than a year after an FBI report indicated there was no evidence of racial bias in George Zimmerman’s history, the Justice Department is trolling for email tips on the former neighborhood watch volunteer as it weighs a possible federal civil rights case against him.

Amid pressure from the NAACP and several Democratic lawmakers to pursue Zimmerman, the department has set up a public email address asking for any tips or information regarding the case. The move appears to mark an expansion of the probe, after Attorney General Eric Holder said in an address Tuesday to the NAACP that his department would “consider all available information” before deciding whether to move forward.

The department also held a conference call with civil rights leaders on Monday.

The conference call included DOJ officials, along with representatives from the FBI and federal prosecutors. They spoke to civil rights leaders from Sanford, Fla., as well as others from around the country.

The call was convened by Tom Perez, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division.

A Justice official told Fox News that both the conference call and the email address asking for tips and information are fairly standard procedure when dealing with a high-profile investigation such as this one. The department has used such tip lines in the past, including in a probe last year of the Albuquerque, N.M., police department.

Some attorneys and analysts have cautioned that Holder would have a difficult time bringing a civil rights case against Zimmerman, particularly since the investigation so far is thought to have turned up no evidence or claims that Zimmerman exhibited racial bias. Martin was black.

But other lawmakers appear to have already made up their mind.

“We do know that Mr. Martin’s civil rights have been violated,” Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., said, as other members of the Congressional Black Caucus voiced similar views.

Holder has meanwhile gone beyond pursuing the investigation in the wake of the acquittal. On Tuesday, he also criticized “stand-your-ground” laws, which allow individuals to use lethal force when they believe their lives are in danger — even if they have the option of fleeing.

The NRA criticized Holder for the comments, saying self-defense is a “fundamental human right.”

Holder also, in his address to the NAACP, recounted his own past experiences with racial profiling.

FBI records: agents found no evidence that Zimmerman was racist

This is from McClatchy D.C.

Will this report matter to Eric Holder,Al Sharpton and all

of the other race baiters?

I will say it will not.

After interviewing nearly three dozen people in the George Zimmerman murder case, the FBI found no evidence that racial bias was a motivating factor in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, records released Thursday show.

Even the lead detective in the case, Sanford Det. Chris Serino, told agents that he thought Zimmerman profiled Trayvon because of his attire and the circumstances — but not his race.

Serino saw Zimmerman as “having little hero complex, but not as a racist.”

The Duval County State Attorney released another collection of evidence in the Zimmerman murder case Thursday, including reports from FBI agents who investigated whether any racial bias was involved in Trayvon’s Feb. 26 killing.

The evidence includes bank surveillance videos from the day of the killing, crime scene photos and memos from prosecutors.

Among the documents is a note from the prosecutor who said one of the witnesses said her son, a minor, had felt pressured by investigators to say the injured man he saw was wearing a red top. The boy’s testimony had been considered key, because it backed up Zimmerman’s allegation that he — wearing red — was being pummeled.

Federal agents interviewed Zimmerman’s neighbors and co-workers, but none said Zimmerman had expressed racial animus at any time prior to the Feb. 26 shooting of Martin, a black teen, in a confrontation at a Sanford housing complex. As Sanford police investigated the circumstances of Martin’s death, the FBI opened a parallel probe to determine if Martin’s civil rights had been violated.

Several co-workers said they had never seen Zimmerman display any prejudice or racial bias.

Two co-workers told agents they spoke with Zimmerman the day after the shooting, and both said they noticed injuries to Zimmerman’s nose and the back of his head. One person said Zimmerman was “absolutely devastated.”

Zimmerman told both colleagues that he followed Martin — whom Zimmerman described as a “suspicious person” — so he could tell police where the teen went, but was then “jumped” by Martin. Zimmerman told both that Martin reached for Zimmerman’s gun before Zimmerman shot Martin.

In all, the FBI interviewed 35 people about Zimmerman, from current and former co-workers to neighbors and an ex-girlfriend.

Among the revelations found in nearly 300 pages of records:

• Zimmerman arrived at one of his police interviews with a friend who works as an air marshal. That friend told police Zimmerman was physically abused by his mother and had been estranged from his family.

• The day Zimmerman turned himself in to be charged with second-degree murder, authorities confiscated a handgun from his car.

• A gun dealer called police to say that some time in mid-March, Zimmerman called to say he was afraid for his life and “needed more guns.”

• An ex-girlfriend said Zimmerman had outbursts and sometimes threatened suicide. She suspected it was a result of Accutane, the acne medicine he took. She said he was the “last person in the world” she thought would be involved in such an incident.

The ex girlfriend said she and Zimmerman had a violent argument when she caught him on a singles dating web site, even though they were engaged to be married.

• Trayvon’s cousin said he would swear “on a stack of bibles” that the person shouting in a 911 tape that recorded screams during the struggle was Trayvon.

Zimmerman, 28, claims Trayvon attacked him, breaking his nose and slamming his head on the concrete at the Retreat at Twin Lakes townhouse complex. Specially appointed prosecutors who investigated the case charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder, which carries a potential life sentence.

The state attorney’s office says Zimmerman wrongly assumed Trayvon was a criminal, and says he did not suffer injuries serious enough to require deadly force to defend himself.

The U.S. Department of Justice and FBI stepped in about a month after the killing, as protesters nationwide criticized the investigation. The original probe was conducted by police in Sanford, the central Florida community where Zimmerman lives and Trayvon was visiting while suspended from school.
