Iraq: ISIS fighters flee in terror from this uniquely effective special weapon

This is from Liberty UnYielding.

I can not say I can blame them for running away.

I know if I saw 80-90 lb dog snarling and lunging for me I would do my best to get away.

Even ISIS is sometimeshapless and unprepared.  But it can take a very special warrior to reveal that.

In a recent firefight in northern Iraq, one such warrior was on-hand to give ISIS fighters more than they bargained for. (H/t: Task and Purpose)  The warrior’s name is as yet unrevealed.  All the public knows is that it was a German shepherd military working dog.

British special forces (SAS) soldiers who had been training Kurdish Peshmerga were caught in the firefight when their four-vehicle convoy was ambushed by ISIS.  One of the vehicles struck an IED, and the soldiers had to fight from improvised positions when they came under heavy fire.  As they tried to make their position more defensible, they were hit from the rear.

According to the UK media report, a U.S. soldier was embedded with the SAS team, and he was apparently the dog handler.  When the ISIS attackers moved in from the rear, he released the German shepherd (which the report refers to as an Alsatian):

“The Alsatian was with the team in a training role but when the troops came under fire it was desperate to get involved.

“It could sense the tension and had an overpowering urge to protect its handler and the other troops.

“When the dog was unleashed it went after the greatest threat without consideration for its own safety – this is what they are trained to do.”

The canine warrior made short work of the ISIS goons:

The militants tried to shoot the dog but missed. It then jumped at one of the terrorists, biting his neck and face.

The dog then turned on another jihadi, savaging his arms and legs. Both men turned and fled screaming.

As the Daily Star’s source points out:

“A snarling Alsatian running at you is very frightening and probably not something the jihadis had encountered. The dog did its job and returned to its handler with its tail wagging.”

The dog’s heroics gave the team the extra time it needed until U.S. air support arrived to knock out the attacking force.  SAS credits the dog with saving lives and giving the team the opportunity to escape the ambush.

This shepherd’s role is as an attack dog; the Star says its sources think this incident marked the first time an attack dog saved British lives in combat, in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

But bomb-sniffing dogs have saved numerous lives in both conflicts.  Probably the most famous in Britain was Treo, a black Labrador who was awarded the Dickin Medal for gallantry by a war service animal in 2010.  (Treo died recently at the age of 14.  LU commemorated another, most unique Dickin Medal awardee in 2014.)

When they perform at the level Treo did, the dogs become targets themselves.  In 2008, “within weeks of Treo’s arrival, the Royal Marines were intercepting enemy radio messages [that] mentioned targeting the ‘black dog.’”

(ISIS will undoubtedly find ways to do the same against coalition working dogs in Iraq – a fact K9 handlers must always be on the alert for, especially given ISIS’s often gruesome methods.)

One of the best known military working dogs in the U.S. is a German shepherd named Bruno, whose handler, Marine Sgt Adam Cann of Davie, Florida, in 2006 became the first Marine K9 handler to be killed in action since Vietnam.  Bruno won his spurs in numerous security actions in Iraq; he won his enduring place in American hearts in a viral photo of his inconsolable vigil at Adam Cann’s grave.

Joseph Parker, at, describes the bomb attack that took Cann’s life:

Cann and Bruno were in front of the Ramadi Glass and Ceramics Works. Over 1,000 Iraqis were lined up for a police recruiting event. While the event was going on a car overran a security check-point causing panic to spread through the crowd.

Minutes later, Cann spotted a suspicious-looking man and approached him. Seconds later the suspect detonated a vest he was wearing that contained 40-pounds of explosives.

The vest was filled with bearing which mortally wounded Cann. Bruno, his military working dog, was also wounded on his left side from the blast. As Adam lay there Bruno laid next to him putting his head on Adam’s chest to further shield him from additional harm. Bruno was medevaced to Al Asad Airbase in Al Anbar province.

Cann was so close to the insurgent that his body absorbed the blast, he died shielding two other Marines and his dog Bruno.

FRANKLIN GRAHAM: ISIS Is Committing Genocide on Christians – World Is Silent

This from Clash Daily.

Franklin Graham is correct with his observations about ISIS committing genocide.

Other pastors and world leaders should be taking a hint from Franklin Graham, but don’t hold your breath for that. Rev. Graham recently wrote a Facebook post about the massive genocide that ISIS is committing against Christians and it has already been shared more than 46,000 times. Check it out…

It is genocide—and the world seems largely silent about it. Genocide perpetrated by the Islamic State against Christians, Yazidis, and other religious minorities of Syria and Iraq. And their methods are unimaginably cruel and heinous.

Just a few days ago it was revealed that three Assyrian Christians were executed on September 23, which is the Muslim “Feast of Sacrifice,” and they say they’ll kill more hostages. And recent reports share the horror of 12 other Christians being murdered on August 28. Why were they killed? For refusing to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ.

Eyewitnesses said that ISIS militants crucified a 12-year-old Christian boy and his Syrian missionary father along with two other men after mercilessly brutalizing them. They cut off the boy’s fingertips to try to get his father to convert to Islam. They left their bodies hanging on the crosses for two days under signs reading “infidels.”

On that same day, ISIS militants publicly raped two Christian women in front of a crowd and then beheaded them along with six others when they refused to convert to Islam. “They have every intention of spreading that bloodshed around the world, including America,” Fox News reported. Pray for an end to this horrendous evil in the name of religion.

This American Biker Fighting Terrorists In Iraq Is So Feared That ISIS Put A Bounty On His Head

This is from Western Journalism.

“I’m here for all of those who want to live a peaceful life that has been deprived to them by ISIS.”

He’s a Colorado native, a tough-as-nails biker formerly involved with a “one percenter” motorcycle club, according to a profile of the volunteer terror fighter that appeared in The Daily Beast. Now “Mickey” — not his real name but the way he is referred to in the article — is on the front lines assisting Kurdish forces, in the thick of battle, engaged in deadly combat against ISIS in war-ravaged Iraq.

Because Mickey is so fierce and so fearless as the bullets fly and the bombs explode, ISIS is reportedly offering a reward to anyone who can take him out of the fight. Not only is he a capable warrior; he also cuts an imposing figure on the battlefield — long blond hair, goatee, tattooed, permanent sunburn, often seen puffing on a cigar when he’s not taking aim at the enemy.

And how did Mickey — who has adopted the ominous war-fighting name “Necromancer” — come to be among the Kurdish Peshmerga fighting to drive Islamic State terrorists from their homeland? As The Daily Beast profile tells us, Mickey was once a member of the French Foreign Legion who hints at a criminal past in the United States. He’s a man on a mission who paid his own way to a war he saw as an epic struggle for justice.

Mickey said he found himself drawn to the current fight against ISIS by the injustice he saw occurring. “I’m here for the people, nobody else. I’m here for all of those who want to live a peaceful life that has been deprived to them by ISIS. I don’t care about politics or religion. That’s not what I’m here for,” he said.

Mickey, or Necromancer, is one of an unknown number of American volunteers who have given up their lives stateside and traveled thousands of miles to Iraq to join the Peshmerga. In a recent article on these “possibly scores” of Americans who have taken up arms against ISIS, The Guardian spoke with a man who called himself “Grim.” His explanation of why he chose this dangerous life seemed to capture the feelings of a number of the volunteer soldiers.

We are fighting a scourge,” said Grim, who did not want to disclose his real name. “We are fighting murderers and rapists: people who burn people in cages, people who behead people. This is not a civilised army. They are animals.”

ISIS fighters dress as women in desperate attempt to flee battlefield‏

If these women men get released will their goat humping comrades toss them off a building for cross dressing?

I can not wait for my troll to denounce this as a Jewish plot to discredit these ISIS scumbags.

As Islamic State-driven violence rages on in Iraq, people are using any means possible to escape, and for some that means dressing in drag.

On Monday, the Iraqi army arrested 20 male Islamic State members dressed as women in the northern city of Baquba, according to spokesman Ghalib al-Jubouri.

The arrested used a number of creative ways to pull off a realistic female disguise, as seen in the pictures originally posted on Instagram.

Underneath the robes and veils, the men put on makeup, wore dresses and some even wore women’s bras. Others chose not to shave their facial hair, though still applied eyeliner, eyeshadow and blush.

The men were desperately attempting to flee the fighting in Tikrit, which Iraq’s military only managed to take back from Islamic State six days ago.

It is unclear what will be the fate of the Islamic State members now that they are in police custody.

ISIS Plans On Sending Muslims Infected With Ebola Into America To Infect And Kill Americans

This is from Freedom OutPost.

This is a great reason to seal our borders and then quarantine the

incoming Muslims and people from Ebola stricken countries.

ISIS threatened the United States and their allies with spreading the Ebola virus within those countries if they continue to wage war on the organization inside Syria and Iraq.

ISIS explained that its members can “synthesize and produce” “Ebola and Corona.” ISIS also said,

Followers and soldiers of the Islamic State are mostly suicide bombers and all of them are ready not only to carry Ebola, but to drink Ebola if they were asked to carry and spread it in the United States. This is not difficult but we need a decision from the leaders jihadist.

Ebola could easily be transmitted through bodily fluids, including sweat, tears, saliva, blood, urine, semen, etc., including objects that have come in contact with bodily fluids (such as bed sheets, clothing, and needles) and corpses.

It is said, “this disease will go airborne, and there are many other mechanisms through which mutation might make it much more transmissible.”

The statement from ISIS said that:

The process of spreading disease is not difficult, it is easily transported in a bottle in your bag and take them from Africa to America and open in a air-conditioning duct or put it in the public drinking water by elevator doors

The statement from ISIS also said:

The process of cultivating bacteria can be done by any student in the Faculty of Science or Department of Biology. They do not need complex laboratories and even a makeshift laboratory can be made in a small apartment in which we can farm millions of germs and viruses

However, Jack Chow, service professor of global health at Carnegie Mellon University, says that by the time a would-be martyr came to America, the symptoms of Ebola would be conspicuously displayed on his person, and he would be too sick to get passed customs.

But, this does not mean ISIS cannot use animals, especially bats, to carry Ebola into America. Bats in particular are effective carriers of Ebola and could be easily utilized to transport Ebola.

Muslims could also contract Ebola during the annual Hajj, which is suppose to be starting soon, in which millions of Muslims will gather together in Mecca. Saudi Arabian authorities have stepped up safety and security measures, and there is a long list of troubles they hope to avoid: crime, fire, stampedes, and the spread of infectious disease.

This year’s Hajj is shadowed by both the terrorist threat posed by Islamic State (IS) jihadists and the possible Ebola contagion. Over 98,000 have been prevented from entering by Saudi authorities for security reasons or due to a lack of authorization. Massive preventative measures have been taken by Saudi Arabia

New estimates by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning that the number of Ebola cases could soar dramatically in the weeks and months ahead. The CDC says that unless efforts to curb the outbreak are ramped up significantly and quickly, the disease could infect up to 1.4 million people by mid-January in two nations, Sierra Leone and Liberia, alone.

Some epidemiologists are saying that there will be between 77,000 and 277,000 cases of Ebola by the end of 2014.

White House Fence-Jumper Has a Troubling Backstory That Should Make Americans Very Concerned

This is from Independent Journal Review.

The question that needs to be asked is Why Omar J. Gonzalez, was sent back to Iraq after being diagnosed with PSTD?

This is clear evidence on how the Veterans Administration is failing our veterans.

The intruder who scaled the fence Friday and made it all the way into the White House before being apprehended has been identified as a homeless Army veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

According to a family member, Omar J. Gonzalez, 42, suffers from combat trauma. He offered this explanation for Gonzalez’s actions:

“We talked to him on 9/11 and he said he planned to go to a Veterans Administration hospital to seek treatments. He’s been depressed for quite some time.

He’d been taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication. I suspect he stopped taking it, otherwise this wouldn’t have happened.”

According to the relative, Gonzalez was diagnosed with PTSD after a first tour of duty in Iraq: “But they sent him back for a second tour,” he said.

Gonzalez was arrested and taken to George Washington Memorial Hospital for evaluation. If the assertion that he was indeed diagnosed with PTSD following a first tour of duty in Iraq is true, why was he sent back for a second tour?

While initial reports said that the Army veteran was unarmed, the Secret Service confirmed Friday night that he was “carrying a VG-10 black folding-knife, a pocket knife with a 3.5-inch serrated blade.”

Scrutiny is now focused on the Secret Service, as well, which said Saturday that “the location of Gonzalez’s arrest is not acceptable.”

As we asked in an earlier post, what might have been the result if he had been strapped with a suicide vest and/or carrying a firearm?

Questions abound. Given the threat posed by ISIS and others, answers must be forthcoming – and appropriate actions taken. Pronto.

Does anyone find it odd Obama is sending ground forces to defeat Ebola but not ISIS?

This is from Liberty UnYielding.

What can sending troops to help in West Africa accomplish?

What I see happening is infecting our troops with Ebola.

Yesterday, President Barack Obama made a speech about a menace overseas that threatens the future well-being of our nation and laid out his plans to react decisively. He said:

[T]he world is looking to us, the United States, and it’s a responsibility that we embrace. We’re prepared to take leadership on this to provide the kinds of capabilities that only America has, and to mobilize the world in ways that only America can do.  That’s what we’re doing as we speak.

He also observed that we are sending 3,000 American troops to deal head-on with the crisis.

In other words, he is putting “boots on the ground.” But not in Iraq or Syria to face down the existential threat posed byIraq or Syria. Rather, he is committing U.S. military to the war on Ebola in West Africa.

This scourge, he noted, has claimed more than 2,400 men, women, and children. That’s less than half the number of men, women, and children ISIS had slaughtered by mid-July.

So is the rationale behind this seeming misplaced priority that Ebola is more deadly? Not by the president’s lights. In his speech, he said:

Here’s what gives us hope.  The world knows how to fight this disease.  It’s not a mystery.  We know the science.  We know how to prevent it from spreading.  We know how to care for those who contract it.

He went on to allow as how we have to move fast, but isn’t the clock also ticking in the case of ISIS, which has already identified its next beheading victim?

Don’t get me wrong. I believe that the Ebola epidemic needs to be addressed. I applaud Obama’s decision to deploy members of the U.S. Public Health Service field hospitals that are being setting up in Liberia.

Where I fault him is in his refusal to take similarly decisive action against ISIS because returning to the battlefield in Iraq after declaring the war there “over” will reflect badly on his legacy. The saddest part is that he still believes Americans aren’t seeing his naked political posturing for what it is.

U.S. sells Iraq 5000 Hellfire missiles to “help it in war against jihadists”

This is from Jihad Watch.

What in the Hell is Obama thinking?

How many of these missiles will be used against American or Israeli troops?

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said that ‘the U.S. State Department agreed to sell Iraq five thousand Hellfire missiles to help it in the war against Jihadists.’” What’s that you say, US Defense Security Cooperation Agency? “Jihadists”? Don’t you know that CIA director John Brennan has declared that jihad is a positive concept, and that the Obama Administration has deleted all references to jihad from counter-terror training manuals? In other words, the Obama Administration policy is that jihad is a positive thing, and that Islamic jihad terrorists are not really jihadists at all. So the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency’s word choice here is extremely poor, and inconsistent with Administration policy. Someone in the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency is heading for a reprimand. Ibrahim Hooper, call your office!

“URGENT: US sells 5,000 missiles to Iraq in $700 million USD weapons deal,” by Abdelhak Mamoun, Iraqi News, July 30, 2014 (thanks to Kenneth):

( On Wednesday the United States announced the sale of 5,000 missiles to Iraq as part of a weapons deal valued at $700 million dollars while indicating that 180 Lockhead Martin “Hellfire” missiles have already been transferred this year and 360 more “Hellfire” missiles will be delivered in August.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said that “the U.S. State Department agreed to sell Iraq five thousand Hellfire missiles to help it in the war against Jihadists,” indicating that “Iraq will use these missiles to increase the capacity of its security apparatus in field operations carried out by now. “

The U.S. Defense Department said that “Washington handed over to Baghdad 180 Hellfire missile in this year and 360 more will be delivered next August.”

This is the largest recent missile deal between the two countries, which include 5 thousand missiles for use by jet planes, miscellaneous equipment, spare parts and training courses offered by the American forces to the Iraqi security services.

U.S. forces have used Hellfire missiles with drones to hunt down suspected members of al-Qaeda in Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere.

Slate: Climate change could have led to the rise of ISIL

This is from Jihad Watch.

The evils that globull warming causes.

It does not matter the ISIL is an organization of murdering muslim scum.

Let’s see: we know that it couldn’t be that the jihadis think that Islamic texts and teachings justify violence and warfare against unbelievers (and apostates and heretics). And we know it couldn’t be that Sunnis in Iraq were never going to acquiesce to Shi’ite rule, and that ultimately their resentments boiled over into all-out jihad. We know that it couldn’t have anything whatsoever to do with Islam, right? So the problems in Iraq must then be attributable to global warming!

“Hot Zone: Is climate change destabilizing Iraq?,” by Eric Holthaus, Slate, June 25, 2014 (thanks to Elizabeth):

This winter was not a good one for farmers in the Fertile Crescent.

A punishing drought hit most of Syria and northern Iraq during what’s normally the wettest time of the year. In the mountains of eastern Turkey, which form the headwaters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, snow and rain were less than half of normal. The region has seen one of the worst droughts in decades.

Drought is becoming a fixture in the parched landscape, due to a drying trend of the Mediterranean and Middle East region fueled by global warming. The last major drought in this region (2006-2010) finished only a few years ago. When taken in combination with other complex drivers, increasing temperatures and drying of agricultural land is widely seen as assisting in the destabilization of Syria under the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Before civil war broke out there, farmers abandoned their desiccated fields and flooded the cities with protests. A series of U.N. reports released earlier this year found that global warming is already destabilizing nation states around the world, and Syria has been no exception.

With the ongoing crisis in Iraq seemingly devolving by the day, it’s not a stretch to think something similar could already be underway just next door.

Could there be a connection between climate change and the emerging conflict in Iraq?

The short answer is a qualified yes, according to Frank Femia of the Center for Climate and Security, a Washington-based policy institute advised by senior retired military and national security leaders. He explained in a phone interview:

It’s far too early, considering this is happening in real time, to figure out what is motivating ISIS and its members. Certainly, the natural resource stresses in the region make things worse. Terrorist organizations can try to control those resources and gain significant influence and power. You can’t say climate change is causing ISIS to do what it’s doing, but it [climate change] certainly has a role to play in the region.

Increasing temperatures may also be playing a role in the recent uptick in violence. A study published last year in the journal Science showed a strong connection between high temperatures and political instability, like civil wars, riots, and ethnic violence, though the cause is not well known. A previous study has linked dehydration with decreased cognitive performance and increased levels of anxiety.

Sure enough, this year has been unusually hot so far in Iraq with the March-April-May season ranking as the warmest on record across much of the country. (Reliable records from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration date back to 1880.) The emergence of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria around the same time may just be an interesting coincidence, but the implications are important enough for us to consider a broader connection….
