The Nazi salute looked almost identical to what was, at the time, the salute to the American flag. The USA changed the salute in 1942 after the Nazis adopted it.

The Bellamy salute is the salute described by Francis Bellamy, Christian socialist minister and author, to accompany the American Pledge of Allegiance, which he had authored. During the period when it was used with the Pledge of Allegiance, it was sometimes known as the “flag salute”. Later, during the 1920s and 1930s, Italian fascists and Nazis adopted a salute which had the same form, and which was derived from the Roman salute. This resulted in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States. It was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress amended the Flag Codeon December 22, 1942.

 The inventor of the bellamy salute was James B. Upham, junior partner and editor of The Youth’s Companion. Bellamy recalled Upham, upon reading the pledge, came into the posture of the salute, snapped his heels together, and said “Now up there is the flag; I come to salute; as I say ‘I pledge allegiance to my flag,’ I stretch out my right hand and keep it raised while I say the stirring words that follow.”

The Bellamy salute was first demonstrated on October 12, 1892 according to Bellamy’s published instructions for the “National School Celebration of Columbus Day”:

At a signal from the Principal the pupils, in ordered ranks, hands to the side, face the Flag. Another signal is given; every pupil gives the flag the military salute — right hand lifted, palm downward, to a line with the forehead and close to it. Standing thus, all repeat together, slowly, “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands; one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.” At the words, “to my Flag,” the right hand is extended gracefully, palm upward, toward the Flag, and remains in this gesture till the end of the affirmation; whereupon all hands immediately drop to the side.

The initial civilian salute was replaced with a hand-on-heart gesture, followed by the extension of the arm as described by Bellamy.

In the 1920s, Italian fascists adopted what they called the Roman salute to symbolize their claim to have revitalized Italy on the model of ancient Rome. This was quickly copied by the German Nazis, creating the Nazi salute. The similarity to the Bellamy salute led to confusion, especially during World War II. From 1939 until the attack on Pearl Harbor, detractors of Americans who argued against intervention in World War II produced propaganda using the salute to lessen those Americans’ reputations. Among the anti-interventionist Americans was aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh. Supporters of Lindbergh’s views would claim that Lindbergh did not support Adolf Hitler, and that pictures of him appearing to do the Nazi salute were actually pictures of him using the Bellamy salute. In his Pulitzer prize winning biography Lindbergh, author A. Scott Bergexplains that interventionist propagandists would photograph Lindbergh and other isolationists using this salute from an angle that left out the American flag, so it would be indistinguishable from the Hitler salute to observers.

In order to prevent further confusion or controversy, the United States Congress instituted the hand-over-the-heart gesture as the salute to be rendered by civilians during the Pledge of Allegiance in the United States, instead of the Bellamy salute. This was done when Congress amended the Flag Code on December 22, 1942.

There was initially some resistance to dropping the Bellamy salute, for example from the Daughters of the American Revolution, but this opposition died down quickly following Nazi Germany’s declaration of war against the United States on December 11, 1941.

YouTube – The letter by substitute teacher Tony Hill was read aloud Thursday as the state Senate considered one of five bills on illegal immigration. Hill wrote that a majority of eight-grade students who he taught recently at an unnamed Glendale school refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and declared that “We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land.”

Hill went on to write: “I have found that (in) substitute teaching in these areas most of the Hispanic students do not want to be educated but rather (want to) be gang members and gangsters. They hate America and are determined to “reclaim” this area for Mexico.”

I only need one reason to not want to live under liberal rule it is the fact they are liberals.

 

The only thing more disturbing than the arrogance, incompetence, and lawlessness of Barack Obama’s administration is that most liberals are perfectly fine with everything he’s doing. It’s shocking that there are so many Americans who don’t care about the Constitution, the rule of law, or even what happens to the country just as long as someone they agree with ideologically is in charge. In fact, the only time liberals seem to get really upset these days is if someone criticizes Barack Obama or tries to put ANY KIND of restraint on his power. Want to know how America would look if liberals like Barack Obama had complete control of the country?

1) Abortion would be the only “choice.” Almost everything else including light bulbs, TVs, health care plans, cars, and the schools your child goes to would be chosen for you by people in D.C.

2) You could be sued for failing to warn people that you are about to say something that could conceivably be offensive to women, gays, transsexuals, or minorities.

3) Every sports fan of teams like the Redskins, Braves, Chiefs, Indians, Blackhawks, and Seminoles would be branded as a bigot and all of those teams would be forced to change their names.

4) We would have open borders and anyone who walks across would be welcome to sign up as a citizen and collect welfare, food stamps, and Social Security.

5) It would be illegal to say the Pledge of Allegiance or fly an American flag because it might “offend people.”

6) All criticism of black and Hispanic politicians would be shrugged off and treated as racism.

7) Government investigations of liberal wrongdoing would be handled by friends, associates, or campaign contributors of the liberal being charged.

8) So many nuclear and coal plants would be shut down that we’d end up with regularly scheduled blackouts in many parts of the country.

9) Anyone could choose not to work and get a monthly stipend from the state — well, until the money runs out.

10) Cities, states, and even well-connected big businesses that spend irresponsibly and go broke could always be bailed out by the federal government.

11) Women would have to get mandatory abortion counseling from Planned Parenthood before giving birth just to make sure they are ready to have a child.

12) Conservative talk radio, blogs, websites and especially Fox News would be regulated out of existence and only government-approved media sources would be allowed.

13) Christians and conservatives would have to hide their beliefs to get government jobs.

14) The IRS would be allowed to audit people solely for contributing to conservative candidates or being a member of conservative groups.

15) Men who have sex with women who are drinking would be treated as rapists by default.

16) Merit and even basic competence would be secondary in importance to hiring people who are the right race or sex for a job.

17) Any child who plays with a toy gun would be considered a potential psychopath and expelled from school.

18) Americans would only be allowed to buy tiny, overpriced electric cars that don’t work very well.

19) It would be illegal to oppose gay marriage.

20) Guns would be confiscated from everyone except the criminals, the cops, the military, and the bodyguards for rich liberals.

Obama Omits “Under God” From Gettysburg Address

Washington DC talk show host Chris Plante reported today that Barack Obama omitted the words “under God” from the Gettysburg Address when reciting the great speech for a Ken Burns documentary.

Burns had filmed all living presidents as well as various Hollywood personalities and luminaries to pay homage to the speech which was delivered by Abraham Lincoln 150 years ago, today.

Plante broke the story on Washington DC talk radio station WMAL on his mid-morning program, “The Chris Plante Show.”

WMAL reports:

Curiously enough, in his version of the speech, President Barack Obama’s delivery contained an omission – in a line that every other celebrity delivered as “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom,” the President left out the words “under God.”

UPDATE: A text box now appears on the Ken Burns website www.learntheaddress.org which states: “Did you know there are five versions of the Gettysburg Address? We asked President Obama to read the first, the Nicolay Version.”  A cached version of the same webpage from several days ago shows no such reference.

Seattle is considering banning the words “brown bag” and “citizen” because the words offend black people and illegals.

Daniel Greenfield responds, “When Seattle one day gets around to banning all words, because language is inherently offensive to the illiterate, and everyone is reduced to communicating with grunts and emphatic gestures, an era of true tolerance and nomadic lifestyles will be upon us.” That is hilarious Daniel! Well said.

When I grew up, I was banned from using certain words, not by the government, but by my father. I was banned from saying God’s name in vain, or using it as a curse word. I was also banned from saying euphemisms for God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, i.e. “golly,” “gee,” “gee-whiz,” “gosh,” “holy cow,” etc. I wasn’t allowed to say the “f” word, or the “n” word, or “sh**,” or even “crap.” I didn’t want to. I respected God and my parents and others.

Dad said that the only biological systems used as ‘cuss’ words were the reproductive and the excretory systems. He said the human body was a magnificent masterpiece (Psalm 139) and that using body parts in a derogatory fashion was blasphemous to God, the Creator. I love that. I love that Dad taught me to respect God and the human body, mine and others’. Words are powerful. Using bad language affects your personality and your behavior.

I taught my children the same. We don’t say “f-a-r-t.” I told my daughter that saying “f-a-r-t” would lead to saying “f-*-*-k”, which would lead to smoking, then drinking, then alcohol, pot, cocaine, and then heroin. She said, “You’re telling me that if I say, “f-a-r-t,” I’ll become a heroin addict?!” I replied, “Yes.” She said, “Can I say “fert”?

If you can’t control your tongue, you can’t control anything.

However, the current governmental movement to control our speech is not based on morality or Biblical principles or even kindness. It is part of a larger agenda from the Progressives/Communists to control everything. Our media is controlled by the government. Our public education. Our money. Our health care…maybe. (Obamacare will probably crash). Our smoking areas. Our soda and caloric intake. What I bring on a plane. What I pack on a trip. What I wear on my head in my Driver’s License photo. What we post on the Internet. And now, our words. Our thoughts.

Speech controls our ideology. By making it “racist” to say “Oriental” instead of “Asian,” or to change the name of the Cleveland “Indians” baseball team, or to say “African-American” instead of just “American” is pushing multiculturalism which is globalism, a one world (socialist/communist) government.

Omitting the words “Islam,” “jihad,” and “Muslim” from the CIA, FBI, and media reports on terrorist activities like the Ft. Hood shooting changes our war from America against Islamic Jihad, to America against any “extremist” religious belief system. And, who determines what “extreme” is? Harry Reid, Pelosi and Obama continually preach that the Tea Party/conservatives/Christians are “dangerous.” They are using words to deceive, to change the enemy, to redirect focus, and move the target.

Using “gay” instead of “homosexual” changes the attitude of a behavior from ‘deviant’ to ‘happy.’

Mikey Weinstein trying to remove “So help me God” from the Air Force Academy oath, and atheists trying to remove crosses from the Ground Zero Monument, and other places, and to remove the phrase “under God” from our Pledge of Allegiance….

New approach to remove ‘under God’ from pledge may succeed

The pilgrims first set foot in the New World on Plymouth Rock in search of religious freedom. Plymouth Rock is located in what would later become known as Massachusetts, and a group of citizens there are now seeking to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.

On Sept. 4, the Massachusetts Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on whether the daily recitation of the pledge in school violates students’ rights due to the inclusion of those two words, according to Religion News Service.

Although the controversy centers on the words, “under God,” plaintiffs in Doe v. Action-Boxborough Regional School District are departing from the usual First Amendment religious violation claim, alleging instead that compulsory recitation violates the state’s equal protection laws. That is the same theory used to successfully argue for same-sex marriage.

The plaintiffs, an anonymous atheist couple, are represented by the American Humanist Association. According to the Becket Fund for Religious Freedom:

On October 21, 2011, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty filed a request to intervene in the case on behalf of students who want to continue saying the Pledge of Allegiance, their parents, and the Knights of Columbus. The Becket Fund entered the case to defend the Pledge from yet another constitutional challenge to the words “under God”.

On June 8, 2012, a Massachusetts state court upheld the Pledge as constitutional.  The case is now before the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.  The court has scheduled oral argument for September 4, 2013.

The change in tactics, if successful, could lead to similar lawsuits filed in other state courts, experts predict.

“You would then see a rash of state court lawsuits challenging the pledge all over the country,” said Eric Rassbach, deputy general counsel for the Becket Fund. “A win for us would completely avoid that unnecessary harm. And it would affirm that it is not discriminatory to have the words ‘under God’ in the pledge.

“There is disagreement, but there is not discrimination,” Rassbach added. “That is what is at the heart of this — disagreement about what the government should do.”

Decades ago, the late comedian Red Skelton made a remarkable recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and no one has topped it since. If you’re surprised about his deletion of the words, “under God,” continue watching until the end — it’ll all make sense.

 

 

 

Those of You Born 1930 – 1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!

First, we survived being born to mothers
Who smoked and/or drank while they were
Pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing,
Tuna from a can and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies

in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

As infants & children, We would ride in cars with no car seats,

No booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires

and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day

Was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, From one bottle

and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon..

We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.

And, we weren’t overweight.

WHY?

Because we were always outside playing…that’s why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day,

As long as we were back when the Streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
And then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.

After running into the bushes

a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s and X-boxes.

There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,

No video movies or DVD‘s, no surround-sound or CD‘s,

No cell phones, No personal computers, no Internet and

no chat rooms.

We had friend and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth.

And there were no lawsuits from these accidents

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did

not live in us Forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,

Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and,

Although we were told it would happen,

We did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and
Knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just
Walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.

Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best Risk-takers, problem

solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years

Have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.

Love him or hate him, President Woodrow Wilson rightly stated, “A nation that does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do. We are trying to do a futile thing if we do not know where we have come from, or what we have been about… America was born a Christian nation. America was born to exemplify that devotion to the tenets of righteousness which are derived from the revelations of Holy Scripture.”

Recently, while doing a radio interview I was asked my what my opinion was concerning immoral issues that are taking place in our country. I said, “My ‘opinion’ doesn’t matter any more than your ‘opinion’ does.” I said, “It is OK for us to have different opinions as long as we are rooted in the same principles.”
And herein lies America’s problems.

When we are no longer rooted in the same principles, corruption seeps in and begins to divide and conquer through outlets such as the media, public schools and colleges.

For example, most young people think America is a democracy. Yet, when saying the Pledge of Allegiance, you recite, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the UNITED States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, indivisible (cannot be divided, separated or broken), with liberty and justice for all.”

President Andrew Jackson said, “The Bible is the rock upon which our republic rests.” And these are the principles that keep us united.

I can just now hear the media, the teacher, the “well-educated” college professor or the philosopher (using big words with common-sense meanings) decry, “We are not a Christian nation.” They then complain about the government that will not be ruled by Law (God gave government through Moses – Exodus 18:21).
In their confusion they blurt out the truth: They would rather listen to man’s 10,000 commandments than to God’s Ten Commandments, which only produce liberty when you love God with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength.

In essence, the unprincipled in America are at war with God and His Law, which commanded we should not kill, commit adultery, steal, lie or covet. They seem to forget that “Wherever law ends, tyranny begins”… and tyranny is what you are dealing with today, because most people do not know their history.
America, how is it that the left (as it is called) knows how to lie better than the right knows how to tell the truth?

The remedy: know your history
The University of Houston political science professors searched to find where the Founding Fathers chose their ideas:
They assembled 15,000 writings from the era of the founders.
They researched for 10 years, isolated 3,154 direct quotes and identified the source of the quotes:

8.3 percent were quotes from Baron Charles de Montesquieu;
7.9 percent were quotes from Sir William Blackstone;
2.9 percent were from John Locke;
34 percent of their quotes came directly from the Bible – and when researching where Montesquieu, Blackstone and Locke got their ideas, they found that theirs came from the Bible as well.
