Pastor Plans Toy Gun Buyback For Church Kids

This is from Godfather Politics.

Rev.Rodney Francis needs to read his bible again.

In Luke chapter 22 and verse 36 Jesus said..

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Gun buyback programs are nothing but photo opportunities for local police departments. They’re PR campaigns for local governments to show everyone that they’re doing their part to curb gun violence. Any one buyback might yield a couple thousand firearms, but in reality, they do nothing to curb gun violence. It just looks good and feels good to the people involved. How many of the guns turned in were defunct and worth next to nothing? How many were used to commit a crime? How many were stolen?

In the eyes of one pastor in St. Louis, Missouri, one can never do too much to help curb gun violence. Rodney Francis is the pastor at Washington Tabernacle Baptist Church. He’s planning a toy gun buyback for kids. Francis said that they’ve got to teach them young so that they don’t get a distorted view of guns when they get older:

“My wife and I feel that we need to do everything we can to not allow our kids to get exposed to this too early. They’re going to get exposed to it but we can protect them early on so they don’t get a distorted view of what those can do to the human body. We want to engage the culture of violence and one of the strategies that we thought we might be able to use is to educate parents about the danger of allowing kids to continue this access to toy guns and playing with toy guns.”

The pastor and his wife don’t allow violent video games, violent movies or toy guns in their house. That’s fine. What I don’t know is if they have real guns for real self-defense and real protection of their family. Instead of getting kids to turn in their toy guns in order to get those “assault” Nerf guns off the streets, how about teaching the kids at a young age about how to use real guns? Teach them about gun safety. Yes, show them how dangerous a gun can be, but also how important one can be if one’s life is in danger.

Teaching kids at a young age is important. But what will it teach them if they’re being told to turn in their toys? It will teach them that guns are in and of themselves bad. And anything that looks like a gun, a toy, a drawing or even a hand shaped like one are all evil. But that kind of mentality will not help protect anyone from a violent criminal.

Besides, trying to disarm the law-abiding child population in this St. Louis church may only lead to a black market of toy guns. And I’m sure this pastor won’t want these toy guns ending up in the wrong hands.

County Police Chief Recommends Arming School Personnel

This is from KMOX St. Louis.

Chief Fitch is correct time to train and arm our teachers.

The Principal needs to be trained and armed also.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch says it is time to talk about arming civilian school personnel following Friday’s massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, comparing it to arming airline pilots after September 11, 2001.

“I see it no differently,” he said. “Pilots have been armed now for many many years, we’ve not had another hijacking and the issue is, for the bad guy, he doesn’t know which airplane he’s getting on, if the pilot is armed or not.”

Fitch said the killing will not be stopped by legislation or laws. “If there’s somebody that’s really hellbent on doing something like this, they’re not going to care what the law is

The chief is adamant about his plans but realizes his calls for arming school workers will be met with resistance.

“We touched on this issue with heroin problem with schools. When we first were talking about the heroin problem in St. Louis, many of the school officials ran and they just hid out, they said ‘nope, we don’t have a heroin problem in our schools,’” Fitch said.

“They started to find out some of the students were involved in this and some of the students were dying of heroin overdoses. It forced them to have this discussion and to take action, inviting us into their schools to talk about the heroin problem in St. Louis.”

Concerning the possibility of gun control, Fitch said “it’s just not going to happen,” and called for an increased focus on mental health instead.

“One of the first thing governments tend to cut back on in tight times are mental health services,” he said. “We know this individual has a mental health history in Connecticut, we’ve seen that in all the school shootings, and additional resources would be helpful.

But, last resort, somebody’s got to take action and they got to do it quickly.”

8th Circuit Blocks Obamacare Mandate

This is from Godfather Politics.

We need to fight this outrageous law and all of its mandates.

Hopefully this beast can be killed.

This law will destroy healthcare.

A federal appeals court has granted an injunction blocking the enforcement of the Obamacare mandate that companies must provide insurance coverage for contraceptives and abortifacients in violation of business owners’ religious beliefs.

The ruling comes in a lawsuit involving O’Brien Industrial Holdings, a St. Louis, Missouri, company that runs businesses that explore, mine and process refractory and ceramic raw materials.

“By granting our motion, the appeals court blocks the implementation of the HHS mandate and clears the way for our lawsuit to continue – a significant victory for our client,” said Francis Manion, senior counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice. “The order sends a message that the religious beliefs of employers must be respected by the government.”

The case is significant in that it does not involve a church, Christian hospital or other explicitly religious business. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius tried before the recent election to tamp down controversy over the Administration’s violation of the First Amendment by trumpeting a religious “exemption” that didn’t satisfy most of the complainants about the original mandate.

If O’Brien Holdings is successful in its lawsuit, it could open the way for broad exemptions for any business whose owners object to the mandate on a religious basis, potentially severely cutting into Obama Administration plans for shaking down American businesses through Obamacare taxes or fines.

In October, a lower court had granted the Obama Administration motion to throw out the lawsuit, but the granting of the injunction by the appeals court overturns that previous ruling and blocks enactment of the mandate.

Frank O’Brien, the owner of O’Brien Holdings, is a Catholic and maintains that his religious beliefs provide the structure of his business, which has 87 employees. District judges in Colorado, Michigan and Chicago have upheld similar lawsuits by private businesses against the Administration.

An amicus brief filed in the O’Brien case by the Bioethics Defense Fund and Life Legal Defense Foundation claims the mandate also violates the Administrative Procedures Act by not considering important aspects of the drugs being mandated. According to the brief, oral contraceptives can increase risk of heart attack, stroke and cancer. The brief also cites dangers from intrauterine devices and surgical implants to reduce pregnancies.

Religious leaders across the country are watching this and the other cases filed against the Obamacare mandate, which essentially  forces Christians, Jews and other people of strong religious values to abandon their beliefs for the sake of leftist dogma enacted by the Obamacare law.

As Larry Cirignano, president of Faithful Catholic Citizens, said: “Give up your religion or go bankrupt. This is not a mandate; it is an ultimatum.”
