Happy Birthday to The King Of The Wild Frontier Davy Crockett.

Born on August 17, 1786, backwoods statesman Davy Crockett has been obscured by myth for nearly 200 years. Even during the man’s lifetime, fanciful stories about his adventures were transforming him into a buck-skinned superhero. And after his death, the tales kept getting taller. In honor of Crockett’s birthday, let’s separate fact from fiction.

1. HE RAN AWAY FROM HOME AT AGE 13.

When Davy was 13, his father paid for him to go to a school. But just four days in, Davy was bullied by a bigger and older boy. Never one to back down from such a fight, one day he waited in a bush along the road home until evening. When the boy and his gang walked up the road, Crockett leaped from the bush and, as he later wrote in his autobiography, “set on him like a wild cat.” Terrified that the schoolmaster would whip him for beating one of the boys so severely, he decided to start playing hooky.

His father, John, was furious when a letter inquiring about his son’s poor attendance showed up. Grabbing a stick, he chased after Davy, who fled. The teen spent the next few years traveling from his native Tennessee to Maryland, performing odd jobs. When he returned, Crockett’s parents didn’t recognize him at first. Following an emotional reunion, it was agreed that David would stick around long enough to help work off some family debts. About a year later, all these were satisfied, and Crockett left for good not long after.

2. HE NEARLY DIED IN A BOATING ACCIDENT.

After serving under General Andrew Jackson in the Tennessee militia, Crockett got into politics. Elected as a state legislator, he served two terms between 1821 and 1823. After losing his seat in 1825, Crockett chose an unlikely new profession for himself: barrel manufacturing. The entrepreneur hired a team to cut staves (the boards with which barrels are constructed) that he then planned on selling down in New Orleans. Once 30,000 were built, Crockett and company loaded the shipment onto a pair of flatboats and traveled down themighty Mississippi. There was just one problem: the poor-quality vessels proved impossible to steer.

With no means of redirecting them, the one carrying Crockett ran into a mass of driftwood and began to capsize—and he was trapped below deck. Springing to action, his mates on the other boat pulled him out through a small opening. The next day, a traveling merchant rescued them all.

3. CROCKETT CLAIMED TO HAVE KILLED 105 BEARS IN ONE YEAR.

If his autobiography can be believed, the expert marksman and his dogs pulled off this feat during a seven-month stretch from 1825 to 1826. Back then, bear flesh and pelts were highly profitable items, as were the oils yielded by their fat—and Crockett’s family often relied on ursid meat to last through the winter.

4. A SUCCESSFUL PLAY HELPED MAKE HIM A CELEBRITY

Crockett ran for Congress in 1827, winning the right to represent western Tennessee. Four years later, a new show titled The Lion of the West wowed New York theatergoers. The hit production revolved around a fictitious Kentucky congressman named Colonel Nimrod Wildfire, whose folksy persona was clearly based on Crockett. Before long, the public grew curious about the flesh-and-blood man behind this character. So, in 1833, an unauthorized Crockett biography was published.

Sketches and Eccentricities of Colonel David Crockett of West Tennessee became a huge bestseller—much to its subject’s chagrin. Feeling that Sketches distorted his life’s story (although, to be fair, it began, “No one, at this early age, could have foretold that he was ever to ride upon a streak of lightning, receive a commission to quiet the fears of the world, by wringing off the tail of a comet,” so it’s unlikely anyone thought it was a straight biography), the politician retaliated with an even more successful autobiography the very next year.

When The Lion of the West came to Washington, Crockett finally watched the play that started it all. That night, actor David Hackett was playing Col. Wildfire. As the curtain rose, he locked eyes with Mr. Crockett himself. They ceremoniously bowed to each other and the crowd went wild.

5. HE RECEIVED A FEW RIFLES AS POLITICAL THANK-YOU PRESENTS.

Over the course of his life, Davy Crockett wielded plenty of firearms; two of the most significant were named “Betsy.” Midway through his state assembly career, he received “Old Betsy,” a .40-caliber flintlock presented to him by his Lawrence county constituents in 1822 (today, it can be found at the Alamo Museum in San Antonio). At some point during the 1830s, Crockett’s congressional tenure was rewarded with a gorgeous gold-and-silver-coated gun by the Whig Society of Philadelphia. Her name? “Fancy Betsy.”

If you’re curious, the mysterious woman after whom these weapons were christened waseither his oldest sister or his second wife, Elizabeth Patton.

6. CROCKETT PUT A LOT OF EFFORT INTO MAINTAINING HIS WILD IMAGE.

Wikimedia Commons // Public Domain

For somebody who once called fashion “a thing I care mighty little about,” he gave really detailed instructions to portraitists. Pictured above is arguably the world’s most dynamic painting of Crockett, as rendered by the esteemed John Gadsby Chapman. Most likenesses, the politician complained, made him look like “a sort of cross between a clean-shirted Member of Congress and a Methodist preacher.” Instead, he asked Chapman to portray him rallying dogs during a bear hunt. Crockett purchased all manner of outdoorsy props and insisted that he be shown holding up his cap, ready to give “a shout that raised the whole neighborhood.”

7. HE COMMITTED POLITICAL SUICIDE BY SPEAKING OUT AGAINST ANDREW JACKSON’S NATIVE AMERICAN POLICY.

Old Hickory was a beloved figure in the volunteer state—and Crockett’s vocal condemnation of the President’s 1830 Indian Removal Act didn’t earn him many friends back home. “I believed it was a wicked, unjust measure,” the congressman later asserted, “and that I should go against it, let the cost against me be what it might.” He then narrowly lost his 1831 re-election bid to Jackson man William Fitzgerald. In 1833, Crockett secured a one-term congressional stint as an anti-Jacksonian, after which he bid Tennessee farewell, famously saying “you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.”

8. CROCKETT REALLY DID WEAR A COONSKIN HAT (SOMETIMES).

Walt Disney’s Davy Crockett TV serial triggered a national coonskin hat craze in the 1950s. Suiting up for the title role was square-jawed Fess Parker, who was seldom seen on-camera without his trusty coonskin cap. Children adored Davy’s rustic hat and, at the show’s peak popularity, an average of 5000 replicas were sold every day.

But did the historical Crockett own one? Yes, although we don’t know how often he actually wore it. Some historians argue that, later in life, he started donning the accessory more often so as to capitalize on The Lion of the West (Col. Wildfire rocked this kind of headgear). One autumn morning in 1835, the frontiersman embarked upon his journey to Texas, confident that the whole Crockett clan would reunite there soon. As his daughter Matilda recalled, he rode off while “wearing a coonskin cap.” She’d never see him again.

9. THERE’S SOME DEBATE ABOUT HIS FALL AT THE ALAMO.

Crockett was killed during or just after the battle—that much is clear. But the details are both murky and hotly-contested. A slave named Joe claimed to have spotted Crockett’s body lying among a pile of deceased Mexican soldiers. Mrs. Suzannah Dickinson (whose husband had also been slain in the melee) told a similar story, as did San Antonio mayor Francisco Ruiz.

On the flip side, The New Orleans True American and a few other newspapers reported that Crockett was actually captured and—once the fighting stopped—executed by General Santa Anna’s men. In 1955, more evidence apparently surfaced when a long-lost diary written by Lieutenant Colonel José Enrique de la Peña saw publication. The author writes of witnessing “the naturalist David Crockett” and six other Americans being presented to Santa Anna, who promptly had them killed.

Some historians dismiss the document as a forgery, but others claim that it’s authentic. Since 2000, two separate forensics teams have taken the latter position. However, even if de la Peña really did write this account, the famous Tennessean still might have died in combat beforehand—perhaps the Mexican officer mistook a random prisoner for Crockett on the day in question.

10. DURING SPORTING EVENTS, A STUDENT DRESSED LIKE CROCKETT RALLIES UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FANS.

Smokey the hound dog might get all the attention, but the school has another mascot up its sleeve. On game days, a student known simply as “the Volunteer” charges out in Crockett-esque regalia, complete with buck leather clothes, a coonskin cap, and—occasionally—a prop musket.

Photo Series Depicts The Absurdity Of The Weirdest Laws In America

This is from Elite Daily.

Here in Indiana it is against the law to eat onions on Sunday.

It is legal to have a duel in Indiana as long as the following conditions are met.

1- you notify and get approval from the Sheriff in the county of where the duel is to be fought.

2-You have to hold the duel 15 minutes before day break.

3- Have a medical doctor in attendance.

3- You and the other party have to chose seconds.

4-You must use single shots pistol or a swords.

Believe it or not, it’s against the law to walk around with an ice cream cone in your back pocket when you’re in Alabama.

It makes complete sense, though. Why would you want to do that to yourself? In addition, there are a bunch of other obscure laws that are currently being enforced around the United States.

In a recent photo series conducted by Olivia Locher, a handful of outrageous laws from Maine to California are visualized.

If you plan on traveling any time soon and engaging in strange activities, you’re going to want to know your rights first. Or the rights you don’t have, rather.

Check them out below!

It’s against the law to tickle a woman under her chin with a feather duster in Maine.

You can’t carry a violin in a paper bag while in public in Utah.

It’s unlawful to sell hollow logs in Tennessee.

You can’t wear transparent clothing in Rhode Island. I’m guessing they’ve had horrific experiences with that kind of stuff.

Serving wine in teacups while in Kansas is highly illegal. Mugs are fine, though.

In California, it’s against the law to ride a bike in a swimming pool.

Don’t walk around with an ice cream cone in your back pocket while in Alabama. That’d also be illegal.

If pickles don’t bounce in Connecticut, they’re not considered pickles.

In Wisconsin, it’s against the law to serve apple pie without cheese.

While you’re in Oregon, you can’t test your physical endurance or exercise while driving. Kiss your spring workout routine goodbye!

Don’t put coins in your ears while in Hawaii. That’s illegal, too.

In Texas, it’s unlawful for children to have absurd, obscure haircuts.

Wearing jeans that are form-fitting around the waist is considered unlawful in Delaware.

UAW Withdraws Objection To Lost Election At VW Tennessee Plant

This is from Fox News Business.

What underhanded move will the union thugs try next?

The United Auto Workers union said Monday it is withdrawing its appeal of February’s defeat at a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, saying it pulled its challenge because the process could have dragged on for years.

The union had appealed the high-profile vote to the National Labor Relations Board arguing that “a firestorm of interference from politicians and special interest groups” had played a central role in causing workers to vote against the union.

Workers at the plant narrowly voted against having the union represent them in labor negotiations, a move seen as a devastating blow for the UAW and the U.S. labor movement in general.

In a statement, the UAW said the decision was made “in the best interests of Volkswagen employees, the automaker, and economic development in Chattanooga.”

The union’s announcement came on the same day an NLRB  hearing was scheduled in Chattanooga to address the union’s allegations.

UAW President Bob King said the UAW based its decision on the belief that the NLRB’s “historically dysfunctional and complex process” potentially could drag on for months or even years

The union didn’t back away from its original allegations of interference by powerful political figures in Tennessee.

“The unprecedented political interference by Gov. (Bill) Haslam, Sen. (Bob) Corker and others was a distraction for Volkswagen employees and a detour from achieving Tennessee’s economic priorities,” King said. “The UAW is ready to put February’s tainted election in the rearview mirror and instead focus on advocating for new jobs and economic investment in Chattanooga.”

Corker, a former mayor of Chattanooga, was outspoken in his opposition of the union and publicly cheered when the union was defeated.

Corker released a statement Monday saying, “This 11th hour reversal by the UAW affirms what we have said all along — that their objection was nothing more than a sideshow to draw attention away from their stinging loss in Chattanooga.”

According to the UAW”s complaint filed in February, threats were made by elected officials in Tennessee to withhold certain state-financed incentives if workers voted in favor of brining in the UAW.

In a Feb 12-14 election workers voted 712-to-626 against allowing the UAW to represent them.

BERETTA: Maryland disrespects us and gun owners, so we expand in Tennessee

This is from The Washington Times.

Elections have consequences you vote for DemocRats the working men and women get shafted.

Would you like to make a wager with me?

I say when the Berreta plant in Tennessee gets up and running the Maryland Berretta plant moves to Tennessee.

My family has operated our business from the same small town in northern Italy for 500 years. This means that when we make a commitment to a local community, our hope is to do so for decades, if not centuries, to come.

We apply this same philosophy to all of our factories and locations throughout the world. Such a commitment is not a one-way street, though.

n return for our investment in jobs, facilities and assistance to the local economy, we ask for respect and a supportive business climate.

We deserve such respect. We make the standard sidearm for the U.S. armed forces. We also make firearms that police and consumers use to save their lives and the lives of others.

We also make sporting firearms that are enjoyed by tens of millions of people worldwide, from Olympic shooters to weekend hunters.

Our business has grown in recent years, and because of that, we needed to expand production in our U.S facility, located in Accokeek, just outside of Washington, D.C., in the Maryland suburbs.

Unfortunately, as we were planning that expansion, Maryland’s governor and legislature voted in favor of new regulations that unfairly attack products we make and that our customers want.

These regulations also demean our law-abiding customers, who must now be fingerprinted like criminals before they can be allowed to purchase one of our products.

We have seen these types of legislative proposals in Maryland before, and they never seem to reduce crime. Maybe this is because the proponents of such legislation blame the product instead of human misconduct.’

But in any event, because of these new restrictions and the pattern of harassment aimed at lawful firearm owners we have seen in Maryland over the decades, we decided to expand our facilities in a state that shows more respect for citizens who exercise their Second Amendment rights.

We chose Tennessee for our new facility expansion. Our plans for that location are extensive and long-lasting.

We chose Tennessee because the governor and legislators in that state understand what it means to support businesses (such as through job recruitment and training programs) that improve employment in the state without treating companies as a necessary evil.

We chose Tennessee also because the vast majority of its residents and their elected officials have shown that they respect and honor the American tradition of personal freedoms, including the right to bear arms.

THIS COULD BE ONE OF THE BEST CASES EVER MADE AGAINST COMMON CORE – NO ONE EXPECTED IT TO COME FROM A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

This is from The Blaze.

This is a very impassioned speech made by this young man.

Watch the school try to find some phony trumped up

reason to expel him.

Speaking at a local school board meeting earlier this month, a Tennessee high school senior issued a brief and incredibly insightful address on the problems with Common Core standards.

Ethan Young, a student at Farragut High School in Knox County, Tenn., made his case as to why he believes the school district should drop the new national education standards, a set of guidelines that were never voted on by Congress, the Department of Education nor by local or state governments.

(Related: Parents Fed-Up With Failing Grades Under Common Core Take Matters Into Their Own Hands)

“The president essentially bribed states into implementation via ‘Race to the Top,’ offering $4.35 billion taxpayer dollars to participating states, $500 million of which went to Tennessee,” Young said. “And much like No Child Left Behind, the program promises national testing and a one-size-fits-all education, because hey, it worked so well the first time.”

“If nothing else, these standards are a glowing conflict of interest and they lack the research they allegedly received,” he added.

Young also argued that Common Core standards display a “mistrust of teachers,” a line that prompted applause from the audience.

Tenn. High School Student Ethan Young Delivers Anti Common Core Speech

“I stand before you because I care about education, but also because I want to support my teachers,” he said. “And just as they fought for my academic achievement, so I want to fight for their ability to teach. This relationship is at the heart of instruction, yet there will never be a system by which it is accurately measured.”

The high school senior went on to argue that “standards-based education is ruining the way we teach and learn.” He also revealed that legislators and administrators have told him “that’s just the way things work.”

Now, he’s daring to ask: “Why?”

“I’m gonna answer that question: Bureaucratic convenience,” he added. “It works with nuclear reactors, it works with business models, why can’t it work with students? I mean how convenient, calculating exactly who knows what and who needs what. I mean, why don’t we just manufacture robots instead of students? They last longer and they always do what they’re told.”

The problem is, the extremely bright student continued, “education is unlike every other bureaucratic institute in our government” because the “task of teaching is never quantifiable.”

“If everything I learn in high school is a measurable objective, I have not learned anything,” Young proclaimed. “I’d like to repeat that. If everything I learn in high school is a measurable objective, I have not learned anything.”

Government bureaucrats will never be able to measure “creativity, appreciation, inquisitiveness” but they are the “purpose of education,” he lectured.

“Somewhere our Founding Fathers are turning in their graves — pleading, screaming and trying to say to us that we teach to free minds. We teach to inspire. We teach to equip, the careers will come naturally.”

61 Years Ago Today

61 Yeas ago today Hiram King (Hank) Williams Sr. passed from Country Music Star

into the realm of Country Music Super Star.

Hank began this  journey on Monday September 17, 1923  Mount Olive, Alabama.

Hanks family moved to Gerorgianna, Alabama where Hank met a black street singer named

Rufus “Tee Tot“Payne.

Tee Tot gave you Hank guitar lessons for money or food.

Tee Tot had a great influence on the Hanks music style in later years.

Hiram unofficially changed his name to Hank because it’s a better fitting name for Country Music.

Hank moved to Montgomery, Alabama he got a job at WSFA Radio 1937  Hank was billed as the

Singing Kid it was a fifteen minute show that started  his music career.

After recording “Never Again” and “Honky Tonkin'” with Sterling Records, he signed a contract with MGM Records. In 1948 he released “Move it on Over“, which became a hit, and also joined the Louisiana Hayride radio program. One year later, he released a cover of “Lovesick Blues“, which carried him into the mainstream of music. After an initial rejection, Williams joined the Grand Ole Opry. He had 11 number one songs between 1948 and 1953, though he was unable to read or notate music to any significant degree. Among the hits he wrote were “Your Cheatin’ Heart“, “Hey, Good Lookin’“, and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry“.

Several years of back pain, alcoholism and prescription drug abuse severely deteriorated Williams’s health; he divorced Audrey and was dismissed by the Grand Ole Opry, citing unreliability and frequent drunkenness.

Williams was scheduled to perform at the Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, West Virginia on Wednesday December 31, 1952. Advance ticket sales totaled US$3,500. That day, because of an ice storm in the Nashville area, Williams could not fly, so he hired a college student, Charles Carr, to drive him to the concerts. Carr called the Charleston auditorium from Knoxville to say that Williams would not arrive on time owing to the ice storm and was ordered to drive Williams to Canton, Ohio, for the New Year’s Day concert there.[57]

They arrived at the Andrew Johnson Hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Carr requested a doctor for Williams, as he was feeling the combination of the chloral hydrate and alcohol he had drunk on the way from Montgomery to Knoxville.[58] Dr. P.H. Cardwell injected Williams with two shots of vitamin B12 that also contained a quarter-grain of morphine. Carr and Williams checked out of the hotel, the porters had to carry Williams to the car, as he was coughing and hiccuping.[59] At around midnight on Thursday January 1, 1953, when they crossed the Tennessee state line and arrived in Bristol, Virginia, Carr stopped at a small all-night restaurant and asked Williams if he wanted to eat. Williams said he did not, and those are believed to be his last words.[60] Carr later drove on until he stopped for fuel at a gas station in Oak Hill, West Virginia, where he realized that Williams was dead. The filling station’s owner called the chief of the local police.[61] In Williams’ Cadillac the police found some empty beer cans and unfinished handwritten lyrics.

Tennessee: 5 pillars of Islam replace 10 Commandments in public school, tolerance reigns supreme

This is from the Bradley County News.

Why is promoting Islam a good thing but promoting Christianity

is not a good thing?

What is happening to America and Tennessee?

What would Davy Crockett and Sgt. Alvin C.York think of their home

state of Tennessee turning her back on God?

This post is long due to many links.

Tennessee: 5 pillars of Islam replace 10 Commandments in public school, tolerance reigns supreme

Springfield High School didn’t miss an opportunity to display and essentially express their desire to show their tolerance for an ever growing diverse community at a recent open house for parents and returning public school children.

On display on the freshmen hall wall of the Robertson County TN school, the 5 Pillars of Islam were pasted “up and down” the hallway proclaiming the “rules” to be a good student of Islam, much in the way the 10 Commandments direct Christians.

Photo of one of many posters observed in hallway of Springfield High School in Robertson County, TN.

http://www.jewsnews.co.il/2013/08/08/tennessee-five-pillars-of-islam-in-public-school/

The 5 Pillars were youthfully drawn onto a white cardboard canvas complete with definition and meanings of the 5 pillars of Islam. Interestingly enough the 5 Pillars contained what is often considered the 6th Pillar called Jihad and was missing Zakat,Charity or the tithing pillar which most religions consider very important, more so than Jihad or Holy War.

I was informed of this display from a very concerned parent who sent me a picture of the “poster” displaying the 5 Pillars and said they were all over the place and was very concerned that one “religious” set of rules had been tolerated and posted on school walls and one was not.

The only problem, to date, is the 5 Pillars stayed and the 10 Commandments came down.

The Jihad reference is a very strong one as many believe it along with Zakat or charity is helping fund many of the terroristic attacks around the world against Christians and believers of Christ.

Simply put, Jihad is war against the non believers, the kafir, you and me, and promotes death as a certain end if you fail to convert to Islam. And our schools and leftist groups are not saying a word and allowing this to be promoted in our TN public schools.

It is evident that the only religion allowed to express their religion and political clout in public schools are the Muslims and the teachings of Islam.

This is indoctrination through prostelyzation to the Kafirs, our children.

If they can have this type of access to our children all or none should be able to do the same.

Allowing one religion to be promoted in our public schools and not any others shows a deliberate bias and deliberate attempt to make one religious concept acceptable over another.

A certain hypocrisy is displayed and begs for at least questions to be asked as to why this has been allowed in these “politically correct” times and what is their motivation?

It is extremely obvious that while one  side is attacking the foundations of Christ, it is allowing and ignoring “other” representation of religious display.

As seen in the references provided below there are mutliple attempts, successfully I may add, by the extreme left to squash the display of any Christian literature or  historical foundational documents from our rich national heritage. Religious display other than Christian seems to be acceptable in our public schools.

The cry for tolerance of all religions is quickly being discovered to be a push for preference while softening or eliminating the evangelical voice in our state and nation.

At what point does it become acceptable to condemn one religion and all it’s tenets for the promotion of another. Where is the outrage by Christians on this subject who have been silenced and their beliefs replaced with the 5 Pillars of Islam.

The driving force behind acceptance comes when the cry for tolerance becomes intolerance and vica versa. As one wise person has said before, “what is good for the goose, is good for the gander!”

How does this foundation of Islam get to be displayed and the foundation of the Christian faith, the 10 Commandments get attacked and ordered removed by numerous lawsuits forcing their removal.

I believe school leaders and teachers are joining the PC crowd so as not to offend, unless of course you are Christian.

Meanwhile, the 5 Pillars of Islam doesn’t even raise a bleep on the radar screen of  the ultra liberal groups like the ACLU and The Freedom From Religion Foundation crying for their removal, not a word.

These same groups, at the drop of a hat repeat the mantra that our school or public institutions must be free from religion and influence of the church. “We must separate Church and State”, yet remain silent when Islam or others push for the same.

Its obvious to me this movement is not about separating Church and State and freedom from religion, it’s about removing God from our schools and dismantling the Christian movement. This effort by the left is and always has been about that. It is now being revealed.

If the measuring stick was religious influence on our children the leftist and the mainstream media would have made a bee line toward removing the 5 Pillars of Islam from our public schools just as they have the 10 commandments. But it is not, and will not!

To me, the first pillar of Shahadah, there is no god but Allah and Muhammed was his messenger is the most powerful “religious” statement that is going unchallenged. To ignore the call for Jihad in the hallways of our TN public schools should not be tolerated in any civilized setting.

These terroristic expressions of faith and duty by Islam should be condemned by all, including the Robertson County school board, Springfield High School Principal, parents, churches, congregations and teachers inside the system.

Religious freedom, if you believe it, should be applied here in great force to any god or religion! Right?

Showing bias toward one religion and not another shows hypocrisy with a good heap of partiality for one “religion” over another severely weakens their argument that religion should not be in our school system. So, the logical solution and I’m playing the devils advocate, its all or nothing.

In case you have never seen or reviewed the pillars, here they are. This is what is being displayed in our public schools in TN as proven by many photos taken of their display and parents statements of kids inside this school system.

The 5 pillars of Islam:

1. The Shahadah
A statement of belief: I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and I further testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

2. Salah
Compulsory prayers that are performed five times a day.

3. Zakat
The practice of giving, based on accumulated wealth, and is obligatory for all Muslims who can afford it.

4. Saum
Fasting during the month of Ramadan.

5. Hajj
Make pilgrimage during the Islamic month of Dzul Hijjah in the city of Mecca once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able to perform it.

6. Jihad
Islamic campaign against nonbelievers:a campaign waged by Muslims in defense of the Islamic faith against people, organizations, or countries regarded as hostile to Islam

Wanna see the disparity and obvious  hypocrisy?

Please glance at these articles below then look at the “flip side” and see the counter offer by the left to drive the teachings of Islam mainstream in our public schools and the lefts silence and lack of resistance to this religious display.

A note worthy of mentioning is in my exhaustive research I found no item or lawsuit by the ACLU or FFRF demanding that the 5 Pillars of Islam be removed from any venue. I did find many supporting and even large corporations promoting their display.

The hypocrisy and one sided approach to “freedom from religion” is very intriguing.

Fixing the White House Fence

I got this in an email.

I know it is an oldie but yet it is a goodie.

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.
One is from Chicago , another is from Tennessee , and the third is from Montana.

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Montana contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.

“Well,” he says, “I figure the job will run about $900. That’s $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, “I can do this job for $700.
That’s $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Chicago contractor doesn’t measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, “$2,700.”

The official, incredulous, says, “You didn’t even measure like the other guys.
How did you come up with such a high figure?”
The Chicago contractor whispers back, “$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire
the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.”

“Done!” replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the Government Stimulus plan worked

Union bosses threaten Hurricane Sandy cleanup contractors, their families

This is from The Daily Caller.

Big surprise union thugs intimidating non union workers.

Union Thug intimidation is why out of state powers crews

left New jersey in the first place.

Sadly these union thugs will be praised for their bold actions.

Unionized local employees repeatedly harassed and intimidated non-union workers of a private disaster cleanup firm that won a government contract to restore Long Island, New York, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The vice president of the union even made threats against the wife and kids of one of the workers. That worker felt it necessary to call the police and pursue other security measures to protect his family, a source told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

After Hurricane Sandy devastated the New York and New Jersey shoreline in late October, Looks Great Services (LGS) won a bid to haul away debris, clear roads, and remove damaged trees. New York’s Nassau County hired the company to complete $70 million worth of repairs.

Soon thereafter, representatives of Local 138, a union representing heavy equipment operators, began visiting construction sites, demanding that the company hire unionized employees to help with the job.

But LGS was paying its workers — some of whom came from out of state — market-based wages, rather than union wages, in compliance with federal law regarding disaster recovery jobs.

“If the contract is union, we are union, if it’s not, we’re not,” said Kristian Agoglia, president of LGS, in an interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation.

His answer didn’t satisfy the union, which began making inflammatory statements to workers at LGS construction sites.

One of LGS’s contract workers recalled a union heckler telling them to “take your country ass back to Mississippi,” and “get your dumb Tennessee ass off that piece of equipment.”

“What they would say is, ‘It sure would be sad if your trucks caught on fire,’” recalled the LGS worker, who spoke to TheDC News Foundation on condition of anonymity because the union also made threats against his wife and children.

Local 138 Vice President Phil Capobianco made the threats, said the source.

“[He] called and said, ‘Look you have to get us involved,’” recalled the source. “I said, first of all I don’t have to, second of all we’ve tried, and third you’ve said you refuse to work for the rates we can pay.”

Then Capobianco said something that the source would never forget.

“He said, ‘I would just hate for anything to happen,’” recalled the source. Capobianco then rattled off a list of the source’s home address, his wife’s name, his kids, and their current whereabouts.

“I’m a combat veteran, and I have never in my life been as frightened as I was in that phone call when he started naming my family members and where they were and what they were doing,” recalled the source. “From that point forward I wasn’t polite to him. I told him exactly what he could do with himself, what he could do with his union, and what he could do with his threats.”

The source contacted police and hired a security company to check on his house and his family. LGS also implemented security cameras at its operating sites.

Agoglia was aware of the threats, but said Capobianco’s statements stopped short of illegal harassment, according to his counsel.

“It’s not against the law to discuss that they are aware that you have family members and where they go to school,” he said. “It’s very intimidating, but it may not be crossing the legal line.

Piers Morgan Offended By “Assault Pressure Cooker” Joke

This is from Godfather Politics.

Tennessee State Senator Stacey Campfield was lampooning

Liberal absurdity by being absurd.

That got Comrade Piers Morgans panties in a wad.

Banning guns to stop murders is like banning pressure cookers

to stop bombings.

Tennessee State Senator Stacey Campfield made a politically incorrect joke about “assault pressure cookers,” and it landed him in hot water with Piers Morgan. The joke was something that conservatives everywhere have been making since it was revealed that the Boston bombers used pressure cooker bombs.

Campfield had posted a picture on his blog of a pressure cooker with satirical labels indicating where the “folding stock” is and the fact that it’s “large-capacity, can cook for hours without reloading.” He joked that Feinstein was going to come after these and start confiscating them from people.

As you can imagine, Piers Morgan wanted to skewer him. It was so inappropriate for a State Senator to make such a joke in such proximity to the Boston bombings. Piers asked him on his show why he would do that. Here was Campfield’s explanation:

“Really just pointing out the hypocrisy of the left, how they push for gun control ten seconds after the Sandy Hook shooting, and yet when something else happens, they refuse to say that it’s not the inanimate object, it’s actually the person. So when people like yourself go on and say we have to get rid of guns, we’ve got to push for gun control, it’s just ridiculous. It’s like pushing for pressure cooker control after the explosion.”

Morgan went on his usual bit about how pressure cookers are not ordinarily used for explosive purposes, that they’re used for cooking. Guns on the other hand are only for killing. So, it’s a completely false analogy. It’s not fair to joke about banning pressure cookers.

He says the same thing when people bring up deaths resulting from car accidents, the number two cause of injury death in America, second to suicide. Why not ban cars since they’re responsible for so many deaths? But cars aren’t used to kill people, so you can’t compare the two.

OK, handgun deaths vastly outnumber “assault rifle” deaths, and Piers would say that the only reason someone has a handgun is to kill someone. There is no other purpose for any kind of gun. Yet, he claims to want to ban only the semi-automatic rifles. Why not handguns too since they’ve “killed” more people?

Because liberals like Piers Morgan don’t really care about loss of life as much as imposing controls over people. And that was State Senator Campfield’s point. They don’t care about law-abiding citizens being free to defend themselves and their families as they see fit. They only want to attack the instrument used by mass murderers to kill others.

Like the Boston bombers using pressure cookers and common household chemicals. Banning those things won’t stop terrorists from making explosive devices. Like the State Senator said, he was only trying to point out the hypocrisy of the left. His joke would be funny if it weren’t so true.
